Summer vacation is USUALLY from the last week of july to the last week of August.
Winter vacation is USUALLY from the last week of December until the 1st week of February. The kids have 2 weeks of school at the beginning of February t0hen a break for the kids for 2 weeks while the teachers get shuffled and organized for the new term starting March 2.
FOR EXAMPLE:
This year my school was on holiday from July 21 - Aug 27.
Our winter vacation period is from December 28 - February 3.
The kids are back in school from Feb.4 - 15 then break again until March 2. The teachers are ALL in the school during this 2 week break. |

Our winter vacation last year was from Jan. 2nd to the end of March. The winter camps where mostly in January.
Our Summer vacation was from July 20th to August 20th. The summer camps I had where from Aug 6th thru 17th.
But summer camps and winters camps are not at the same time every year. |

There is no one set holiday dates ... Not even within a region ... The actual holiday dates can vary from school to school ... I will see if I can find it ... but at the GEPIK orientation last week they gave a range of the start and end dates for several holidays ... and there was not one start or end date but a range of possible dates ... For example the start of winter vacation ranged from I think from memory from 22nd December to 28th December ... It just depends on what the individual school decides ...

So when the school and kids are on holiday, are you on holiday too?
I notice that most contracts say 14-21 days of vacation. How many weeks are you on vacation? (offically and unoffically) Can you travel during these times?

Under my contract I have 14 working days vacation a year (which with weekends ends up being almost 2 1/2 weeks).
Unofficial vacation time does literally depend on your school. And you should not count on getting any time in addition to that in your contract - nor get stressed if you don't get any extra leave .... You should also not count on being able to travel outside of Korea in any unofficial leave ...
I find it is better just to plan on having the offical leave ... and then take any other leave ... or half days as simply being a bonus to enjoy rather than an entitlement ...

From the current GEPIK contract:
1.Employee shall be entitled to a paid leave for a total of fourteen (14) working days during the term of the employment. Paid leave may be taken at any time school is not in session, and must be approved by school principal at least 15 days in advance. Saturday and Sunday do not count as vacation days. If Employee renews the contract, up to 7 days of unused yearly paid leave may be rolled over to the new contract period. This carried over paid leave may be used in the new contract period, but it may not be rolled over into any subsequent contract period. |
