| I think that one key reason PRIDE legends haven't fared well in UFC is because steroid (and other performance-enhancing drug use) was reportedly rampant in PRIDE, while it's well screened-out in UFC ... |

another big reason is conditioning... its the biggest transition to the UFC from PRIDE. the pace of a 10 minute 1st round vs the pace of a 5 minute 1st round. the pace in PRIDE was more deliberate due to the need to conserve energy for a 10 minute round, while UFC fighters train to go full-on for five minute spurts.
athleticism has something to do with it, too. the level of conditioning and athleticism in the ufc has always been higher due, i think, to the higher number of fighters with a wrestling background competing in the UFC. its evolved so that non-wrestlers had to improve their conditiong lest they be overwhelmed by less-skilled, but better conditioned fighters.
PRIDE's focus was more on skill, which made for some amazing fights. does anyone doubt shogun is a better skilled fighter than griffin? i don't... but he was overwhelmed by a stronger, better-conditioned athlete so that his skill became less of a factor as the fight wore on until he succumbed to a choke.

It is kind of related because the "Iceman" does seem to have gotten mentally slower - although I think he gave the excuse of having taken some medication that started kicking in on that occasion...)
Reportedly, he's appeared groggy in several recent interviews. He clearly isn't as sharp as he was when he KO'd Randy Couture twice and defeated Tito Ortiz... |

Wanderlei Silva has already called out Forrest Griffin as his next oppenent in December. I'm betting it will happen.

But if Fedor doesn't sign with them, what is he going to do? Are there enough big name fight clubs that can guarantee the coverage (coverage is good for sponsorships) and paydays that the UFC can, other than K-1? |
