Whats your favorite type of school?
Based on management and pupils. |

I think I've answered this poll several times before. It's hard to say because so much depends on the school. An academic HS with high standards might be the best possible job in Korea and a crap technical high school the absolute worst. |

Elementary - in any country.
There's something evil about teenagers. I can't even remember any nice teenagers from when I was a teenager. |

Why not have an answer for none. I have taught in hogwans for 7 years and I wouldn't teach at a school for any amount of money. |

Midschoolers are tolerable if they know there are consequences-consistenly severe consequences.
High schoolers-16 yearolds, grade 10 back home-it's too bad those punks don't have compulsory military service waiting for them |

Elementary, because the majority of students are at a relatively similar ability level and their interest in learning english is high.
I also hate all teenagers. |

Did you hate them when you were one?
LOL, I think when younger I contributed to the bad name of teenagers.
I don't know how to include hagwons in the poll.
Really, I am praying about next years job and would like to have some knowledge from teachers who have had experience in different schools.
Thanks,
I feel a little more knowledgeable already. |

I did. I don't hate them now, but I'm still leery of them. It's hard to figure out when to treat them like babies and when to treat them like adults. Some are obviously adults, some are babies, some are in between. It bugs me. Could never spend all day trying to figure that one out. |

Last year I taught at an elementary school (only 1st and 2nd graders) which was fun. I like the little kids...but when they start hitting those prepubescent years...5-6th grade, they are nightmares. Really can't stand kids that age...
squeeky voiced, smelly, obnoxious, insecure...
Now I'm at an all-boys highschool (academic), and teaching 1st level (10th grade). They are 16-17 years old, so most are past the surging hormones. The boys are mostly fun, and I don't dread going to classes.
Not as responsive as little kids, but also less painful.
I avoid middle schoolers like the plague. |

I've taught all age groups. First choice: High School, Second: Middle School. I will never teach Elementary school students again. At least you don't have to remind high schoolers not to eat crayons or to stay in their seats. Not to mention how gross they get when they're sick...grubby.
And I don't like the creaky voices of Middle school boys and social awkwardness when you mix the sexes in groups.
Sure you get some rough teenagers here, but nothing like back home. I look at it as karma--I wasn't the best student in high school, so now when I see a bad student, I try to remember what it was like, which isn't too hard to do.
Sorry for the scattered post--it's early. |
