I posted this question in the pension sticky but it remains to be unanswered. My contract is up in early January. I want to make sure my pension is squared away before I leave.

My question is: If you file for your pension before your last payday, will you receive your pension refund minus your final paychecks contribution to the pension fund? Thanks in advance!

I was wondering too. I wish I had the answer OP. There sure a lot of grey areas involved with teaching in Korea not covered considering this is a well established industry that's been going for a good 12 years or longer.

Good question OP, because you will file for pension refund once you purchase or are provided an outbound air ticket.

We also would like to see a guide written on how best to go about ending a contract the right way such as how you should talk to a director, what to discuss, everything to consider, and what to expect in closing the deal and ending your business relationship with a school director or owner. I expect there is an opportunity for anyone who has researched this whole thing to death like I have to write a book for 1st year teachers to negotiate and navigate the Korea ESL scene from job hunting to leaving Korea; start to finish.

I was at the pension office in Daegu last week. One of the things the clerk wanted to know was my final day of employment. He then established the date that the transfer of funds would be made. All he can show you while you're there is the amount that is currently in the account, so if you're concerned about it, I'd definitely ask.

Since you still have a few months to go, you might want to wait until you're a bit closer to departure. One of the documents you'll need is evidence of your departing flight.

I am bumping my own thread. I do have an another question on this matter.

When they deposit your pension refund, is it based on that day's exchange rate or is there a fixed amount they use?
