Should Teachers Be Allowed To Pack Guns?

Ashland, Ore. - In court documents, she's known as "Jane Doe."
Innocuous enough, but the woman behind that pseudonym pushes one of the nation's hottest political buttons:
guns and school safety.

Teachers in South Thailand are all packing heat these days. Not sure if Changed-up farangs should be trusted though. |

I think only TEFL certified teachers should be allowed to pack guns. Especially CELTA certiifed ones. If a Korean gov't official feels the CELTA, a course for adults, is good enough for teaching grade school kids in Korea, then surely it's enough to certify one to carry a firearm. |

Oh god no! Someone would shoot someone in Korea and then bad publicity would arise as a result. No need to pack a gun around in Korea.
I know of one teacher trying to get his gun over here to go pheasant bird hunting, but I seriously doubt Korea lets him have a gun. Heck, very very few Koreans have a gun. |

In Korea? No.
In the USA? Yes, if someone has a carry and conceal license. |

Anyone who thinks allowing teachers to carry guns is the best way to solve the current problems in schools is not very bright. Guns in the classroom will only escalate the problem and doesn't even begin to solve the actual problem. |

As much as I dislike and would love to see erased the 2nd Amendment, I have to admit it would be pretty awesome if it were reworded to "The right of the people to pack Heat, shall not be infringed."
On topic: having guns in a classroom is genuinely one of the worst ideas I have heard in a long time. The function of a school is to create a learning environment that fosters creativity and critical thinking. Putting a firearm inside a school turns classrooms into something more like a battleground. |

If you read the article, the women is afraid of her ex-husband and wants to carry a gun for personal protection.
What I don't get, is why she couldn't have a locked box in her car with her handgun, and just carry a knife or mace from the car to the school...chances are if he was going to kill her near the school, her having a gun wouldn't help anyways.
As for teacher's packing guns. That is just stupid. They should start kicking kids out of school before that is needed. |

Although I am pro-gun, I don't think that allowing teachers to carry guns in schools will fix the problem of school violence. It is a very complicated problem and won't be solved with teachers packing "heat". Teachers are not trained to deal with violence, law enforcement officers are. I think that there needs to be more police officers in schools plagued by school violence. But here again, I don't think that this is the end all solution.
I support the carrying of firearms in schools by teachers who are legally licensed concealed carry holders. For those of you who don't know, to get this license one needs to undergo an extensive criminal background check and several days of training in gun safety and the law. I believe that everyone has a right to defend themselves. Finally, I think that the Ashland, Ore. school system is over stepping its power. It doesn't have the right to make gun laws only the Oregon legislature does. |

Other countries have better gun laws.
Which equals no school shootings.
Which equals no need whatsoever for teachers to have guns.
It's as simple as that. No matter how pro-gun Americans try to turn things around. |

I think maybe bean-bag guns and tazers should be allowed. Cattle prods if you the student is larger and scarier. |
