I'm doing this now, and I'm striking an odd problem. As I revise the thesis I'm re-reading stuff, and can't remember writing large sections of it. It's all coherent, and ties into the flow nicely, but really, its like reading someone else's work!

Has anyone else struck this problem?

i relate to the OP but definitely not to the above post....

Currently trying to complete mine..... and rereading what I've written makes me wonder if ex-students from back in the hagwon days have managed to hack into my computer....

Thesis blues - I know them well. I struggled with chapter 8 - and started smoking again. It took me 2 years to stop smoking. I had only 10 months to research and write my thesis - and eventually got an extension of 1 week to finish.

72,000 words - largely proof read - my head was spinning. Took it to the printing room - inserted the disc - and all the formating changed. Unbelievable - I just cried. The printing supervisor took pity on me and spent a day getting the formats in line again.

Printed - marked - both my supervisors wouldn't accept the grade (too low) - re-marked. I opened it up - and found a spelling mistake in the first line I read. Closed the thesis and only looked at it one more time (it scared me to think I could write like that). It's taken years for me to learn to write and talk normally again.

Good luck.

It feels great when its finished!

It is interesting reading what you wrote in the past. Old posts on Daves are like that as well.

On the two I have written, I had the opposite problem. I would read what I intended it to say, and not what I actually wrote. I am a much better editor of others work than I am of my own.

I actually really liked the writing process A LOT.

It's the editing I hated. Often I'd begin to edit ideas thinking I needed to expand on them, and then realizing that later I actually did, so then have to throw out the editions.

Editing just sucks in general, in my opinion. The writing process is the fun part.
