What is your opinion of drunks?

Really depends on the person, but I tend to feel sorry for them, having quite a few people in my family who couldn't stay away from the stuff.

Do you like getting drunk?

Yes and no. Would normally prefer to do other things. When everyone is in a good mood it is fun but there seems to be alot of angry people in korea. I hate hangovers so try to avoid drinking too much and often go months without drinking if I feel like I'm putting on weight. I'd always rather go to a coffee shop but the only person who wants to do that with me, is my gf and she probably feels compelled.^^

Yes, especially when i was 16/17.

I like getting drunk, but not everyday. I'd say I get a real good toot on two to three times a month.

There was a time, maybe a month or two, in my first year here, that I was drinking beer many nights a week. Just out of pure boredom or something to do. That came to a halt though.

It's funny in Korea, because once a local sees you drunk, or some sort of incident happens or whatever, you get this "you drink every day" kind of comment from them. What is that?

I don't know how anyone could possibly drink every day. There's more to life than that. And you'd be feeling like a *beep* bag all the time.

I'll admit that I can get pretty *beep* faced though. But a lot? No.

I believe there are a bunch of degrees of alcoholism, but for some it's just an idea. Something to do.

Running away from something? Of course it can be like that, but reality is needed. Reality is more fun. Getting drunk kind of sneaks up on you and the next day you're like "What?". The body can't really take that.

I drink every night. I don't get plowed or anything. Sometimes a couple of beers, sometimes 6. I never get hangovers. I always feel fine the next day and am in complete control of everything I do. I like beer. It's God's gift to you and me!

If I'm going out on the town I may drink a lot more, but then I tend to mix it up by adding a few shots here and there. Then I might get hungover.

I think we really need to clarify what a "drunk" is. To you that might mean someone who drinks 4 beers. To me it's a lot more. My opinion of people is basically good until they give me a reason to think otherwise, so judging complete strangers doesn't make sense to me.

If a guy is responsible and likes to have a good time then fine. If he likes to get drunk, do nothing around the house, call in sick to work because he's hungover, spend all of his money on hookers, beat his wife, cuss his parents, etc, then there might be something to your argument.

Otherwise it just sounds like a way to feel better about yourself because you don't like alcohol.

(I have: Most recently some not very nice things I said to people)

1. My opinion is formed by how the drunk is acting. Some drunks are alright while others are just unbearable.

2. Every once in a blue moon and I'm at a party with a bunch of friends, I've been known to down a few wobbly pops. Razz

3. It comes with the drinking. I try to not repeat the same mistakes when I do drink (and drink less).

I like the high falootin allegations about people who drink regularly, though. The one in the OP is the best: you are running from something! Only thing I see myself running from is more creative entertainment options.

Don't see anything "high falootin" about it. People use drugs and sometimes alcohol to alter their minds. They are running from reality. Getting drunk is just plain stupid. It's a waste of time, money and brain cells. The main reasons people get drunk are to forget about their problems, prepare to do something they wouldn't do sober, hope to find another drunk to take advantage of, or brag the next day about how much they drank.

Somebody hangs out with the wrong crowd of drinkers. I like to drink and none of those are the reasons why.

I don't like loud obnoxious drunks. Loud and obnoxious sober people are more tolerable than loud and obnoxious drunk people.

I drink often, but not very much. I use it to fall asleep, and to stay interested and cheerful while attending dull family gatherings.

I don't consider "like to drink" and "like to get drunk" to be the same thing at all.

I changed some words in your post to show you that one can be derisive and make unfair generalizations about any activity, if they so choose. Please be less critical of others and more critical in your thinking.

This would only need to be pointed out to someone who accused other people of 'running from reality' because they drink! As if was the only way! (more like the only way back!)

People used to drink because it was the only safe option to drink anything. People have always drunk. People have always got drunk. It's someting about being conscious, something to do with the organising of self and society. [Really, anyone with any experience, insight or at least somekind of education would have some kind of hunch about this]. Getting and being drunk, even mere drinking, is interesting. Losing inhibitions in the right places is very, very, very important in any society, for the sanity of its members, therefore for the survival of all.

If people stopped drinking yet continued lying to themselves and others on a minute-by-minute basis, society would be an unrecognisably terrible place in which living a full-rounded life, knowledge of the self, of others, would be greatly reduced (even on a sub-concious level); where creativity and altered states of conciouseness that are actually essential to progress and fulfillment of the present (which is perhaps the same thing) would not happen. Any cultural acheivement you can think of, occured from some kind of altered state, be it drunk, high, inspired...

Although my refutations range from specific and personal to general and sociological to spiritual, that usually happens to any answer to a silly, silly statement.

The OP smacks of denial or simplistic immaturity.

The fact that this needs to be said at all shows how alienated some people have become, or think they have come (which is worse, or the same), from themselves and others.

To your good health, annonymous friend,

Cheers.

Drinking with the right people is enormous fun.
Drinking while watching sport is great fun.
There is nothing wrong with being drunk. You get the odd obnoxious drunk, but you get the odd terrible ESL teacher, doesn't mean we are all that way.
Drinking with dinner is also relaxing.

I'm lucky in that, no matter how drunk I get, I never pass out, and I never do anything I wouldn't have done sober. I have the odd blackout (one or two a year) where I can't remember what I said or did, but from discrete inquiries, I find I never do anything embarrassing. Lucky me.

Oh wonderful. First everyone on Daves were in the top 20% of their class, and now they're all teetotallers as well. Sounds just like what I remember. Only sober type A overachievers go to teach in Korea. Rolling Eyes
