I have my vacation dates and of course..it's during xmas. Will hotels be really expensive?
Also, I'm not sure if I will be going with or without my girlfriend. Whenever I tell the office workers here where I'm going, they chuckle and imply I'm going there for sex.
Where's a decent bar scene? Hiking would be OK too, but not excessively. I like swimming, but have never snorkeled or scuba dived.
If the lady goes, we'll be going to Palawan or Boracay (guess I gotta toss a coin on that one). |

Short time at XMAS = Boracay or Alona Beach.
You still have a significant chance of rainy weather so at least at Alona you have the option of going to town or doing an island tour and checking out the old Spanish buildings.
Hotels (resorts) will run US$25-60 per night at either place (breakfast included).
Both are easy to get to from here. Tickets at XMAS will NOT be cheap. It will cost about 750k won to get there.
For Boracay, fly to Manila and change planes (and terminals) for your flight to Boracay. Make sure you are flying into CATICLAN and NOT Kalibo (or you will face a cramped (20 people in a 15 pass. van), 2 hour ride to the boat dock at Boracay). Seaair and Asian Spirit both fly into Caticlan.

For Alona beach you have 2 options:
a) Fly to Cebu (ALL evening flights from Korea), spend the night and catch a fast ferry to Tagbilarn the next morning.
b) Catch a daytime flight to Manila and then domestic to Tagbilaran. If you fly PAL ( http://www.philippineairlines.com/ )you do NOT have to change terminals in Manila, just go to the other wing of the same terminal. If you fly on another carrier you will have to change terminals (major pain in the azz).

I was there from Dec 21-Jan 15 last year and we got 11 days with anything from intermittant rain to all day rain (about 50% of the time we had rain at some point during the day).
Yup, it can rain on you and don't count on exclusively dry weather until mid Jan or later.
The good news is that TYPHOON season is over at the end of November. |

12:30am arrival means 1:30 by the time you get off the flight, collect your your luggage and get through customs.
Then you need to change air terminals. Add another 30-60 minutes.
Then you need to get through security to get INTO the terminal.
Then you need to check in for your flight.
Then you need to go through security again for your flight.
You need to be checked in at least an hour or 2 before your flight.
Have a nap on the bench.
It is NOT that long a wait and you are travelling light (or you better be - 10kg limit on sea-air flights to Boracay.)
You can also look at Asian Spirit going from Manila to Caticlan but I don't know if there are any earlier flights because there may not be any boats from Caticlan to Boracay before sun-up expecially if the wind and waves are up.
