I like the place for the fact that most of the frat-boy crowd avoid it and one can have a decent pint and feed in a place that resembles a decent pub in the west. It's always had its dedicated fans and legions who don't like it. I prefer it that way. |

jaganath69, who on earth refers to food as 'a feed' unless with dealing with animals?
Anyway, the ham and cheese griller thing that is obviously made from one of those pressing machines we all had in college is killer when you're drunk and there's nothing better around. |

The 3 Alley Pub resembles a western pub......if you're married. If you're single, it's like a pet cemetery. |

Your avatar is interesting because she only has one leg.
I did a search for 'amputee porn' once, and I found it.
That is all I have to say about that. |

if you want to see middle aged men wearing VICTIMS OF KOREAN WIVES Tshirts sitting at the bar sipping their happy hour mugs of cass and all wishing they were 20 years younger and could do it all over again then go to 3allys! the bar sucks!! and it always has!!!
I really have no idea why it ever took off and people flocked there..
then again not much else around I guess... |

It's the 3 Alley Pub.

Oh and NEVER order their nachos. 7 000 won gets you a plate of dry corn chips with a tiny side of canned salsa. No cheese, meat, beans nothing.
Just dry chips |
Hmm. I agree it must have looked pathetic, but seriously, since when has anju ever been good V for M? In Korea 2007, I don't think one can expect much more for 7,000 won. There will always be exceptions, and uni areas might have bargains, but 3AP isn't aiming at the K-student crowd. I can't recall spending as little as 7,000 won for anju (unless it was just a handful of peanuts) in ages.

Yeah the last time we went, one of the waitress was so rude - she plonked our food down and left.. the food almost came flying out of the plate.
Never again... |
And you used to have nothing bad to report about the place. Times have changed, yes?

That Korean guy that works there is really friendly I think.
As for being disturbed for a drink, I'd rather have that than having to struggle to attract someone's attention to get another one (which is common with that miserable Filipina waitress across the road in Scrooge's). |
This has always irked me. The only people who should be allowed to fix or serve drinks in this country are Koreans. Just my opinion. And the only ones allowed to even TOUCH beer should be Germans. Okay, Czecks & Belgians, too. And once I'm appointed Immigration Tzar under the next government, that's exactly the way it's going to be.

well, i know one of the younger waitresses that works there. No names. But anyway, she complains about the way its run, hates working there, hates the boss and has decided to quit, her words were something along the lines of "I can't stand it anymore, I've got to get out of here"
I told her about my experience with this certain older, incredibly rude waitress and she said, "yeah, doesn't surprise me, everyone hates working here" |
Let's see... rude/bad/pushy service, staff hating life, grumbling to customers... Yep. 3AP is now officially sucking like every other crap dive in Itaewon. (I used to go regularly way back when it was better and worth my custom... just loving this thread full of gripes)

ah screw 'em....nothing wrong with using a credit card. Last time I went there the bartender didn't even say hello, he just stood in front of us and waited for our order. I said how ya doing and he just grunted. That place sucks. |
It's like they want to earn in one year what it took Gunter 6~7 years. Funny. And stupid. And typical.

yeah, I agree, nothing wrong with asking if I want another, but the bit about the credit card and then running after him is bad service. |
Not really: many places have a minimum for credit cards as there is a transaction cost involved. As for the "unpaid" bill, that was a simple misunderstanding. In my experience oin 3 A - not small - the errors have been always the other way, and I have told them so, as I am a regular. |
Good ol' Wangja, tenaciously sticking up for his regular. That's admirable of you... in a sort of head-shaking, eye-rolling way. But come on, Gunter's not there anymore, what's the draw? You don't owe that place your loyalty, and they don't deserve you. Guess finding and establishing a new haunt is difficult.

Yeah, it's like the Old Retired Dudes with PX Privileges Club doing the Itaewon bar scene. Only they're not retired, they're still working. And their bar scene consists of sitting/standing at one corner of one bar.

It was great in the early 2000s, when it had one of Itaewon's very few no-frills, no-surprises, bar interiors done proper, and a good lineup of beers on tap, AND looked sanitary enough to want to eat there. (though the short bar is too short) I think the people still clinging to it don't like the place so much as don't know what else to do with themselves. Change is scary. |

for some reason i thought i'd heard good things about the place so i took a friend there. just a bunch of old gits, san miguel on tap that tasted like cass on tap, and a couple of koreans who couldn't figure out they had to write their name on the board before playing pool.
yeah, it's a nice and "shiny" bar, but that's about it. might have less nutcases than seoul pub though (last time i was there i ran into an elderly canadian railing against jewish conspiracies regarding 9/11). |

I'm sorry. I'll stick to bog-standard rust-belt English in order not to confuse you in future. |

Yakity yak, blah, blah, blah, back under the reign of King Sejong, I once had me a firkin of ale there. |
In all honesty though, can you suggest a better bar in the 'won? RMT, I know nationalistic Canuks who rate that one too OTT. Wolfhound? Good concept but the plastic paddy infestation gives me hives. Scrooges? If they fired that a$$hole flippa who works behind the bar I'd maybe go back, 3A staff don't steal tips. Hollywoods? Not bad for an evening watching the footie and skanks, but a bit too noisy and the spirits are sh1te. Seoul Pub? Hobos give it a swerve as the dumpsters have more class. Nashville? When the roaches' visas expire and they move on to teach in China, I might go back.
I come up from the provinces to grace Seoul with my presence about twice a year. Two things are consistent. The guys at 3A remember my name and serve a decent pint in salubrious surroundings and that old wh0re is trying to get business out front of the Hamilton. QED. |

Hey, I didn't say yakity blah blah. But I'll agree with your scores for the rest of the places. For all my b1tching, I haven't sworn off 3AP, and if anything, *I'M* always the one trying to steer the group back there and let bygones be bygones. But they won't go.
You read Tzechuk's 2nd post here about still liking the food and wanting to go back, but after some bad incident, her husband refuses to return? Well, it's the exact same with me -- I'll go, but I can't convince others (and their grievances are based on far more than one surly waitress).
You've never had a problem there, that's terrific. My first and worst bad 3AP experience -- worst service experience in Korea, for that matter -- occurred THE VERY FIRST TIME I WENT THERE, and I certainly didn't have it coming to me. Even still, I brushed it off and the 3AP was my #1 favourite pub for the next five years. Unfortunately, they succeeded in gratuitously offending one friend after another over the course of those years, so now it's completely off the option list.
Every time I see one of these "can you believe this??" 3AP threads, it just reinforces that the crap I've seen isn't a fluke. I know it's popular and everyone's been there, but is there a single pub in all of the ROK that gets slammed on this board more than the 3AP? I don't think there is. Now, we may both not care for Seoul Pub, but the worst I've heard is their clientle smells funny. |

The food is good, service is good, i like the booths if you are bringing in a bunch of mates and my buddy shagged one of the hottest barmaids in itaewon from there. Nice range of beers as well. |
