I am in the process of interviewing Korean black metal and thrash metal bands for a prominent British magazine.
They are pretty cheesy, but I think they have some potential (they are no Emperor or Burzum), but jesus, if you think punk is 'underground' here try delving into the extreme metal scene. Close to impenetrable.

Have you ever heard of a heavy metal band called 'Prong'? Someone once played me a song by them, I just thought the name was funny... How about one called 'Pro-Pain'? |

Have you heard their album 'Stormblast'? It has some outstanding, essential material and wonderful CD art. They sing in Norwegian too, which I find cool. Must confess though, I've not heard much else of their stuff.
That K-black metal vid/song was pretty good by Black Metal standards. Excellent intro, keys and a good guitar solo.
I'm more of a Doom Metal man myself - Type O Negative, My Dying Bride, and of course, Black Sabbath. |

Metal is a huge genre in Korea. I wouldn't call any of it underground. |

This one's okay, but only okay.
The thing I don't understand about bands like this is why they don't sing in tune. Type O Negative did a song lyrically very similar to this (yes, corny) but he actually sang AND it was 20 times as heavy. The song? 'Creepy Green Light'. Check it out, y'metal nerds! It's disturbingly, crushingly heavy, yet as melodic as McCartney.
I think it's great that there are Korean black metal bands, mind, even though I'm not a fan of that stuff.

I think I mentioned this to RACETRAITOR before, not too sure, but most metal sucks.
But weed out the good thrash and black metal bands, and they are good. It is my favourite music, and I like other styles of music, but good metal cannot be beat. |
