Alphabet Street English School (Seoul)
Has anyone had any experiences with the school? Good or bad? I can't find anything through the search function.
Any insight you have would be very helpful!
Thanks |

Is it a hagwon catering to adult-learners?
Sorry. I am naturally skittish when it comes to childrens' hagwons. That's why I avoid them. Spent my first year in one, and while it wasn't really bad, children here are vampires who will suck the life-vitality from your soul, eventually leaving you as a hollow shell. A specter, if you will, of your former self.
That's just my take. Maybe you would like it.

It is located in Pangbae Dong in Seoul (southern seoul). It is a church owned hawgwon/kindergarten that specializes in English language for Korean kids.
I have heard the working conditions are quite good. Though if you are not a Christian, you might have a problem working there... |

Is that the real name of the school or has it changed names due to the owners criminal activities? |

It hasn't been changed as far as I know of...and no criminal activities. Most of the students who go there come from wealthy families that belong to the church that owns the academy.
I don't know why people think it is a bad place, there is only one school/location and as I said it is in Pangbae Dong. I don't work there but I know someone who does. All I've heard are good things about the place. |

If you feel comfortable going there, we can't stop you. It is well worth your time to ask foreign languae teachers detailed questions;
The following questions center around legitimate complaints made by several teachers and poorly written labor contracts.
( 1 ) What time does your workday start and finish?
( 2 ) How long is your break?
( 3 ) How many hours of preparation do you work before the first class?
( 4 ) Did your employer clearly define ALL of your job duties before you signed the labor contract? (Problems start when foreigners arrive at the school and the employer assigns work that is not stipulated in the labor contract. This complaint has been heard several times before in the job discussion forum.)
( 5 ) What duties do you perform that your employer did not explain to you before you signed the labor contract?
( 6 ) Does your employer provide you with a "pay reciept" that clearly states the nature and amount of all taxes, deductions and salary?
( 7 ) Were you provided with an Alien Registration Card?
( 8 ) Has your employer provided you with a health insurance card?
( 9 ) Does your employer pay into the Korean National Pension Plan?
( 10 ) What does the school curriculum consist of?
( 11 ) What are the English speaking abilities of the Korean teachers and your employer like?
( 12 ) Are the students placed in classes that are too difficult for them?
( 13 ) Does your employer deduct taxes according to Korean tax law or a fixed percentage (%)? |

Smart people ask these types of questions before taking any kind of job in Korea...I can also think of a couple to add, but I don't want to take away from the OP's main question, which was: is this a good place to work. |
