You'd be surprised. "Complimentary" means "free." It doesn't mean "this is for retirees." It means "free"

I jist thought it was "service-ah". lol

The other guy said I should be deported, lol

some people are really funny sometimes.

I'm going down to the subway station right now and hand myself over to the authorities. I expect a lot of blank stares and shoulder shrugging. Maybe I should go straight to the police station and turn myself in , but wait, it's Sunday and last time I went to the police station on a Sunday they told me they were closed. lol.

My GF told me last night they are for 65+ and she thought it was funny.

I would never do it again, but I could not resist the first time. Complimentary Ticket--the only english-e

funny flamers probably b*itch about the color of the sky...lol

I think you should serve time in prison first, then get deported. Let Interpol have their way with you afterwards and then it's no longer Korea's problem. I hope you get rained on, too.

I think I deserve to be sent back in time and serve my prison term in Siberia. That will make everyone else think twice before they press the complimentary ticket button. h ehehe

But more importantly, how do I turn myself in?

This thread reminded me of what my Korean friend said about not sitting in the seniors area. Some older people have bowel and bladder issues, so it's a good idea not to sit there.

It is not for retirees per say. It is for Korean retirees only. So why did they put the sticker there?

Dumb dumb dumb. I say take them until they fix or remove the sticker.

They allowed my (non-Korean) friend to take one. She didn't use the machine, just went up to the ticket guy and asked for it. He gave it to her. She is an "older" lady, though technically not retired.

dont be suprised if some day soon those freebies are gone, seoul metro and seoul mrt corp have been complaing that these free tickets are going to cost them some serious money as the population ages and more people use them. means they have to raise fares for the rest of us to keep the trains running at a break even point

The point is, OP is not a tourist, and he decided that he was going to deliberately misinterpret the label on the machine. That is out of line in my book.

Is the OP's sarcasm lost on you?

Technically it is meant for only Koreans. I remember a newspaper article about that.

As far as the crippled seats, I see lots of ajosshis and ajummas who are not a day over 40 sitting there almost everyday. And often they shove people out of their way to get into those seats too. Now, one of the long seats has a sign that says '배려 석' meaning, considering other people seats (bad translation). Basically, they want to reserve 7 more seats for 40 year old people who think they're 60. *beep* em. Sit anywhere you want.

Are those seats only for people over sixty? Someone with better Korean skills than mine should try telling the forty- and fifty- somethings to get out of them sometime... Laughing (if you do, report back here please)

I don't know about tickets for 60 or 65. But the retirement age in Korea is 60.

I would be willing to tell someone to *beep* off, but it'd turn ugly pretty quickly. I know how Korean men react to foreigners telling them what to do. Not well.
