Don't forget the joys of being bashed constantly by a luggage cart while waiting in line for check in. Took the ajumma three evil stares from me to clue her in "look, JUST LEAVE SOME GOD DAMN SPACE BETWEEN MY FKIN LEGS AND YOUR LUGGAGE CART LOADED WITH YOUR FAKE LV LUGGAGE."
___
Why be so polite?
Someone bashes my back legs with their cart. I grab the front end of their cart and shove it into their stomach.
Politeness does not help. |

Yes, I agree. The Chinese are MUCH worse.
I read once something like this about 'personal space'..... In the west, personal space is generally the distance between your nose and the thumb of your outstretched arm. In Asia, personal space is the distance between your nose and your thumb....when you put your thumb on your nose. |

What I find funny, as mentioned above, is that the Korean/foreigner dichotomy still exists in most Koreans' minds even outside Korea. I was recently in the Philippines, and upon my return I was asked more than once by Koreans "Were there lots of foreigners there?". Well, yes, of course there was. It was a hotel. "Oh, I heard many Koreans go there, too." Errrrrr, well I counted the Koreans as 'foreigners' because, ummmm, Koreans are foreigners in the Philippines. "OH! I meant Westerners, real foreigners. Not Koreans! Hahaha!" You're an idiot, don't ever speak to me again.
When in the airport, on the plane or anywhere else while travelling, my friends and I play the game "Spot the Korean". Usually s/he's the one speaking loudly and obnoxiously, carrying the case of ramyen off the plane or pushing people out of the way. We even witnessed one in the Manila airport berating an Air Philippines agent for not speaking Korean.
Yes, I know, not all Koreans are like this, and many other people of other nationalities are arses as well. But its funny. Learn to laugh at it. |

Speaking of idiotic stunts, let's not forget the "wonderful aroma" of...you guessed it!...dried squid. Come on people. I can understand that you personally may like the stuff and that in your drunken stupor not recognize the malodorous nature of it. The rest of us on the train or plane really don't need to be subjected to that crud.
But, of course, it's okay on the KTX. After all, they're just gnawing on the squid jerkey like a pack of jackals eating their first meal in a week (incredibly loud lip smacking, etc.), but they're not speaking in English. Had they done that, then, someone else would raise Cain with the train staff. |
