I went to Yongsan today and bought a 1GB stick of memory, which cost 27,000 won. I took the memory out of my desktop and took it with me to make sure I got the right kind. Works great.

Yes buy 2 sticks @ 1gb / piece.
The W27,000 price would be very generous for laptop ram its generally more expensive (as its quite a bit smaller than desktop ram) and its always wise to go with 'branded' ram, i.e. the same brand as your laptop for which you'll pay a premium.
