just found out from a friend. not sure if any other long-term expats were unaware, but here you go:

Quote:
Beginning in 2007 [emphasis added], most of the United States begins Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and reverts to standard time on the first Sunday in November. In the U.S., each time zone switches at a different time.

In the European Union, Summer Time begins and ends at 1:00 a.m. Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time). It begins the last Sunday in March and ends the last Sunday in October. In the EU, all time zones change at the same moment.

....

On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress retains the right to resume the 2005 Daylight Saving Time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete.

Yeah, praise the Lord we don't have DST here. If God wanted us to move our clocks back He would've made time travel possible.

I wish we did have it here as it would give us an extra hour of day light after work.

When the US falls back 1 hour this Fall, Korea is a whopping 15 hours ahead of Central US time which I find a bit on the extreme side of things.

Yeah, why can't the entire world go by central US time?

If you really want extra daylight after work, just get a job that ends earlier.

The worst is 12 hours.

Don;t think of it as Korea being 15 hours ahead - think of it that USA is 9 hours ahead and forget the date difference.

I woke up around 5 this morning and it was bright. It made me wonder, if daylight savings time is so useful, why isn't it in effect all year round?

Fall Back is the greatest drinking holiday in the U.S. Most bars that would close at 2a close an hour later. It's worth one less hour of sleep on the other side.

On a related note, is their a "bar close" time in SK?
