I'm from the UK, but i've just seen the first season. And jeeezzzz, that is a great TV series, forget your 24's, ER's, and any other drama you've seen on TV.

Check it out.

Yeah, The Wire is pretty much the greatest drama show ever made. I always hated CSI but I can't even watch it without laughing after seeing the Wire.

The problem is this past season. The show became very politicized as it delved into the workings of City Hall.
It lost alot of the action and drama that was its hallmark in the first several seasons and the next season coming up will be its last.
I think the box collection would be awesome.

I thought Season 4 was the best. The police work is great, but David Simon has said that the show is about the state of the American city, from the street level to the political machinations. Definitely one of the best shows in the last 20 years. I did, however, think the whole Bubbles storyline in S.4 was completely dull.

The young inner-city females could be a bit less two dimensional, I wish the creators would look beyond mercenaries and hoodrats. That said, its the only show I can recall that seems to really get the 'hood right.

Shame that Idris Bell hasn't gotten any big screen roles that show his talent like The Wire does. If you like the Wire, try to find HBO's old series, The Corner. Luminous.

Well, I can't speak to the accuracy of the show's depiction of the American urban experience like some of the above posters, but it is indeed one hell of a fascinating, addictive show.

I have the DVD box set of season two sitting on my shelf, and I am waiting until I have time to watch it all in one week. With such a complex serial drama like this, I think that's the best way to do it (besides the show is so addictive that I found myself staying up half the night watching season one).

I can't stand most TV. I don't even own one. If I do watch TV, its on my computer. The Wire is the only show that gets my undivided attention. No multitasking when The Wire is on.
