Now i know this city is northwest and not the wealthiest place in Seoul, but does anybody know much else about the city? How long would it take to get to central Seoul? Nightlife? Any information would be appreciated.

It's not a city. It's a district of Seoul proper, which, despite its small size, has an enormous population of 800,000. I've lived in Eunpyong for 2 years and the best thing about it is the location (proximity to other places of note) - no question. Another benefit is that property is a little cheaper and if you live and work there, you're more likely to get a bigger place than someone in a wealthier area. It's on lines 6 and 3, meaning anywhere of significance is easy to get to - especially Itaewon, Downtown and Hongdae/shinchon.

Your question about nightlife is difficult to answer because somewhere in Nowon-gu (in the immensely larger north-east) has a better nightlife yet is light years away from Downtown, Hongdae/Shinchon and Kangnam even further. 'Standard Korean' nightlife stuff would be the best description, which is great as a newbie, but old-hat after a year plus.

Central Seoul is 6 stops on line 3. Itaewon is 10 stops on line 6 (30 mins). Eunpyeong has 2 large department stores I'm aware of - Emart in Eungam-dong and Homever at World Cup Stadium (which is in Mapo-gu, but very close to Eunpyeong).

Another advantage is hiking.

I lived right at Eungam station for ten months last year. It was okay, but rather boring overall. Yes, the hiking was great (Bukhansan was a regular weekend trip then, whereas now it's once a month at best), and Hongdae wasn't too far, but Itaewon and Myeongdong were rather inconvenient, and Gangnam and Apgujeong felt like they were in a different city.

But ultimately it depends on your priorities.

I lived right at Eungam station as well (cdn, which school were you at)?

Eunpyoung was by far my favorite part of the city to live in, and I lived in Seocho so it's not like I never saw anything else. yeonsinnae is right there for middle grade nightlife, or Hongdae is a tweny-minute subway ride, or Itaewon is 35-45 mins.

I loved it. Great part of town.

I live by Yeonshinnae station. The neighbors are a bunch of tw@ts, but the wife and I live in a pretty cool apartment for the money and it is convenient for getting to many places (except for gangnam).

The nightlife is standard Korean fare. Nothing to write home about.
