I like to remind my fellow Americans every so often that "America" was created by terrorists. There was terrorism against the indigenous peoples and against the Homeland, England.

My, how things change.

Terror also created the Frence Republic and the USSR.

Terror and insurgancy also fought the Nazi occupation.

There are plenty of examples.

U.S. Embassy 'Rips Senate Plan' On Iraq
By STEVEN R. HURST, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD - U.S. and Iraqi forces killed more than 60 insurgent and militia fighters in intense battles over the weekend, with most of the casualties believed to have been al-Qaida fighters, officials said Sunday.

The U.S. Embassy, meanwhile, joined a broad swath of Iraqi politicians both Shiite and Sunni in criticizing a nonbinding U.S. Senate resolution seen here as a recipe for splitting the country along sectarian and ethnic lines.

Bring back Tito!

"We have spilt an ocean of blood for brotherhood and unity of our peoples and we shall not allow anyone to touch or destroy it from within."

"No one questioned ' who is a Serb, who is a Croat, who is a Muslim (Bosniak) ', we were all one people, that's how it was back then, and I still think it is that way today."

"None of our republics would be anything if we weren't all together; but we have to create our own history - history of United Yugoslavia, also in the future."

"We study and take as an example the Soviet system, but we are developing socialism in our country in somewhat different forms."

"I will give everything from myself to make sure that Yugoslavia is great, not just geographically but great in spirit, and that it hold firmly to its neutrality and sovereignty that has been established through great sacrifice in the last battle (referring to the second World War)."

"A decade ago young people en masse began declaring themselves as Yugoslavs. It was a form of rising Yugoslav nationalism, which was a reaction to brotherhood and unity and a feeling of belonging to a single socialist self-managing society. This pleased me a lot."

Former Presidents Can't Withhold Records
By MATT APUZZO, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Presidents don't have indefinite veto power over which records are made public
after they've left office, a federal judge ruled Monday.

In a narrowly crafted ruling, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly 'invalidated part' of
President Bush's 2001 executive order, which allowed former presidents and vice presidents to
'review' executive records before they are released under the Freedom of Information Act
.

Bush Renews Saudi Arabia As Key Anti-Terror Ally ...

Despite Concerns
Rolling Eyes
by P. Parameswaran
Sat Oct 20, 2:09 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush on Friday renewed Saudi Arabia as a key anti-terrorism ally despite concerns over its track record and fears it is exporting extremist ideology.

The move by the US leader came just weeks after a top US Treasury official sharply criticized the kingdom's record on combating terrorism and while the authorities considered a proposal to close down a Saudi-backed school outside Washington for alleged religious intolerance.

"I hereby certify that Saudi Arabia is cooperating with efforts to combat international terrorism and that the proposed assistance will help facilitate that effort," the president said in a memorandum to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to free up aid from Washington to Riyadh.

NO TERROR HERE ... FOLKS ...

Immunity Deal Hampers Blackwater Inquiry
By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The State Department promised Blackwater USA bodyguards immunity from prosecution in its investigation of last month's deadly shooting of 17 Iraqi civilians, The Associated Press has learned.

The immunity deal has delayed a criminal inquiry into the Sept. 16 killings and could undermine any effort to prosecute security contractors for their role in the incident that has infuriated the Iraqi government.

"Once you give immunity, you can't take it away," said a senior law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

State Department officials declined to confirm or deny that immunity had been granted. One official who refused to be quoted by name_ said: "If, in fact, such a decision was made, it was done without any input or authorization from any senior State Department official in Washington." Idea

Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd and FBI spokesman Rich Kolko declined comment.

FBI agents were returning to Washington late Monday from Baghdad, where they have been trying to collect evidence in the Sept. 16 embassy convoy shooting without using statements from Blackwater employees who were given immunity.

Three senior law enforcement officials said all the Blackwater bodyguards involved both in the vehicle convoy and in at least two helicopters above were given the legal protection as investigators from the Bureau of Diplomatic Security sought to find out what happened.

The bureau is an arm of the State Department.

The law enforcement and State Department officials agreed to speak only if they could remain anonymous because of the sensitivity of the inquiry into the incident.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush on Friday renewed Saudi Arabia as a key anti-terrorism ally despite concerns over its track record and fears it is exporting extremist ideology.

It would have been rude to do otherwise. After all, Bush Sr. and Saudi bin Laden Sr. were partners in the Carlyle Group, a private investment firm which specialized in buying up bankrupt defense contractors, i.e. they make money off of war.
