The movie is cool and its fun to see him wasting all those hick western Colorado cops... but that scene at the end where he's like, "I was talking to my friend and then there was an explosion and then this stuff all over me... do you know what it was?? It was my FRIEND, my FRIEND" was lame.

Agreed.

The relentless bloodspray and slaughter more than made up for it!

You have clearly never speant an hour patiently trying to explain to high school sophomores that Rambo is not real, nor are any of the movies an accurate reflection of history.

Yes, I know. Movies are not real or truthful. Try telling that to a high school sophomore.

PS: It is, after all these years, still a chore to overcome the distaste for Sly because he spent his war years in a girls' school in Switzerland but became a millionaire making films about how patriotic he was defending America against various and sundry enemies. Our current president, vice president and former Sec. of Defense had nothing on ole Sly when it came to being war wimps.

Yes, I know it is hard to swallow, but movies are not necessarily true. For example, when that star ship comes up off the bottom of the screen in the beginning of Star Wars, it is just a plastic ship dangling from a nylon thread in a movie studio. I know this is hard to take, but it is true.

When there were rumors of Sly being the 'Italian Stallion' in porno movies, they were half right. He is of Italian extraction.

If it was your friend on you you wouldn't say that!

I don't see what other way Rambo, or anyone else could say about his friend. What should he say that would be more eloquent, "There was an explosion. There was rather a lot of blood, unfortunately. I realised that the blood, quite covering my hands, clothing and in my eyes also, was from that of my friend. I was terribly sad that he had died. I continue to think of him."?
Is that preferable?

Who would win in a fight, John Rambo or Rocky? Just mano y mano, no weapons...

Did you notice that one of the rookie cops was David Caruso?

Yes, I did.

I waited for him to put on (or take off) a pair of sunglasses and say something stupid. Didn't happen Crying or Very sad

As for Cangel's question: Rambo. I think he has the all around technique to put down Rocky...

An acquaintance of mine worked as a film editor on Rambo 3. Said Sly was absolutely over-the-top obnoxious macho dork grabbing his crotch all the time bragging about the un-ending supply of models coming and going from his trailer.
He's probably calmed down since then.

I liked it when it came out, but I tried watching it again quite a while back and it was pretty stupid. Comical.

The feelings displayed at the end of Rambo are very much real and are the sentiments of alot of Vietnam and now Iraq War vets.

They are sent into war, with all the multi-million dollar technology at their disposal, all the leadership skills taught to them for the sole purpose of destroying the enemy....

Were they welcomed home as heroes after "doing their job"?
Hell f'king no!
They got spit on by protesters and called "baby killers" and "rapists" and practically abandoned by some of the same politicians who first sanctioned the war.

"Rambo" was produced as an anti-war statement as much as it was an action movie in that a lonesome vet (John Rambo) returns to the US after being repatriated as a POW, only to find that his best friend fell victim to the symptoms of Agent Orange (widely used in Vietnam). As he was leaving town, he was harassed by the town's ignorant police department.

How would you feel if you were picked off the street like a common criminal after spending several years as a POW and come home to nothing?

Would you be pissed?
I would think so....
