It's freaking awesome! Laughing

Can't wait for John Rambo to come out Very Happy

The movie is cool and its fun to see him wasting all those hick western Colorado cops... but that scene at the end where he's like, "I was talking to my friend and then there was an explosion and then this stuff all over me... do you know what it was?? It was my FRIEND, my FRIEND" was lame.

If it was your friend on you you wouldn't say that!

well, then we'd be more than just friends.

I don't see what other way Rambo, or anyone else could say about his friend. What should he say that would be more eloquent, "There was an explosion. There was rather a lot of blood, unfortunately. I realised that the blood, quite covering my hands, clothing and in my eyes also, was from that of my friend. I was terribly sad that he had died. I continue to think of him."?
Is that preferable?

It wasnt so much the words themselves, but more about the poorly acted delivery. He sounds so dumb when he's talking, you almost begin to think it would have been better off if he'd been killed during the movie. Yooo uht wez ma fruuuund! ma fruuuund!

to Lastat: Yeah, no doubt about the feeling of the v vets and the situation in the early 70s with them returning home. Hence, it's cool to see him offing the hick CO cops who treat him badly (plus I used to live in CO and I got alot of speeding tickets when I wasnt even speeding and I like to imagine I could go rambo on their arses)... It's just too bad they had to get an actor like sly to represent their plight.

About the Iraq situation, I know what you're saying is right all too well because my brother was a US Marine reservist just working his way through university when he was called to active duty in Iraq... his job, there, was "mortuary affairs"... so he got to see the friends on friends on a daily basis. That plus getting shot at and nearly killed a few times. He came back home safe but damaged somewhat psychologically. He still has nightmares and never really got over it. That whole deal pisses me off so much -- the fact that we sent troops to Iraq just to wag the dog -- its a major reason (like 60%) i came to korea in the first place.

I thought the first movie was great. It's too bad that the sequels were as bad as they were. The first one is now considered bad by association.

First Blood was a great movie. It wasn't just a shoot'em up. It was trying to make a statement about the ability, or lack thereof, of Vietnam veterans to readjust to normal society. It was a commentary about the homelessness problems associated with returning vets as well as a scenario involving trained killers put into extraordinary circumstances against normal citizens.

Clearly the best of the series.

However, it is funny to see the end of Rambo III when it has a tribute to our friends. It says, "This film is dedicated to the gallant people of Afghanistan."

I love Stallone. He can do no wrong, because even when he's bad (which is most of the time) it's entertaining. The Rambo trilogy is God's gift to us drunks who enjoy shouting at the screen. Pure testosterone. Rambo rocks--especially Rambo 3, where he takes on an entire country!

Who else could blow up a Soviet helicopter that's got a missile lock on him while he's standing on the ground with a bazooka that couldn't even dent a truck? And who else could carry 2,000 lbs of guns and ammo like it was a sack of potatoes? Genius!

Sounds like his friend could have been rubbing one out while he was talking to him.

Whatever, Rambo is an American icon. I still remember pelting the redneck neighbor mullet boy with pinecones and rocks while we played "Rambo." The little s*it

I met this guy at Narita airport who had been to Cambodia on a trip. He showed me footage on his laptop of him on a 'weapons tour' where he got to fire military-grade weapons onto a hillside. RPG's and stuff. Great footage.

At one point, when the guy was holding one of those huge machine guns with the ammo belt, the Cambodian guy told him not to use two hands like a wuss and that he should "do a Rambo".

It was hilarious watching the video of this guy trying to control the gun's firing while only using one arm. He did a pretty good job, though. (He was a big dude).

I think they filmed it in British Columbia. You can see the Prince to Hope highway sign in it, I think. And the forest scene was in Stanley Park.

Book by David Morrell was really good. Movie changed the ending for the worse.

Quote:
The movie First Blood severely alters the theme of the book by making Rambo more sympathetic and demonizing the police and national guard.

By never having Rambo directly kill any of the police officers and their deaths being brought about by their own maniacal desire to capture Rambo, there is a complete role reversal.

This reversal propels Rambo into the seat of hero instead of that of the cold blooded killer that he was in the novel. Furthermore, in the film, Rambo surrenders to Trautman and is sent to prison for the sequel, Rambo: First Blood Part II, while in the novel.............
Question Question Wink

Anyone who can take out Soviet helicopters with the bow and arrows from The Dukes Of Hazzard deserves some respect.
