Alleged Prostitution Ring Shocks Irvine Residents
(CBS) IRVINE, Calif. Three women who allegedly posted ads for sex on an Internet site have been charged with counts of pimping and keeping a house of prostitution.
The three woman, all Los Angeles residents, allegedly advertised their services on Craigslist.com, and met the men in a two-bedroom unit at the Villa Coronado apartment homes in Irvine, authorities said.
Kyung Ah Lee, 34, was charged with felony pimping and conspiracy. Hyun Jung Shin, 28, and Su Jin Park, 34, were charged with misdemeanor prostitution and keeping a house of prostitution, said Susan Schroeder of the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
Approximately two weeks ago, Irvine police started receiving complaints about the traffic of men going in and out of Unit 269, and set up surveillance, Schroeder said.
Several men were stopped after leaving the apartment said they paid $160 for sexual acts, and that there was an advertisement on the Web site depicting nude and erotic pictures of Asian women promising "hottie Asian girls waiting for you ... 1HR 160 roses for your good time ... open 11 a.m. until 2 a.m." There was also a phone number, Schroeder said.
Lee allegedly greeted a man on Friday that she believed was a customer. Other acts allegedly performed as part of the conspiracy included giving instructions and directions to potential customers using the number advertised online, possessing a cell phone with the listed number in the ads and coordinating the sex acts conducted in the apartment, Schroeder said.
Lee allegedly took a cut of $70 for every $160 paid to Park and Shin as her pimping fee.
Prosecutors said that Shin and Park received $160, disrobed and produced condoms.
Lee posted bail of $35,500 and is set for arraignment in Newport Beach on Oct. 29. She faces up to six years in prison, Schroeder said.
Park is in custody on an immigration hold. Shin was cited and released. Both are also are due in court on Oct. 29, and face up to a year in jail on the misdemeanor counts, Schroeder said.
Police found a container of unused condoms in the refrigerator of the apartment and $1,670 in cash, Schroeder said.
Resident Meghann Quirante said the men did not look quite right and were "rough kind of looking guys, nobody really clean cut, kind of weird."
"That's why I thought it had to do with drugs or something because it was kind of weird-looking guys, (that) don't really belong in Orange County," she told KCAL 9. "Definitely something funny was going on."
Another resident, Sonali Jambhekar, said she saw a woman placed under arrest, while her neighbor "told me there was a police raid and they surrounded this apartment with guns."
"We are like really shocked because we never expected in such a quiet environment there would be such a scene out here," she said. "It's quite shocking." |

Better we dirty their water than ours. I say good on 'em. if the market is demanding and paying for their services, then they're just supplying a need. |

The reason why they go to places like the U.S. and Canada:
"A crackdown on prostitution in South Korea has triggered an exodus of sex trade workers to Vancouver, Toronto and cities in the United States, authorities in Seoul warn...
"Dedicated web groups are awash with advertisements drawing prostitutes abroad.
"A typical post on one such site boasting no fewer than 1,430 members-- www.cafe.daum.net/zonesogeso--read, 'We know that in Korea these days, unemployment, the recession and the Special Law on Prostitution make it hard to earn even half of what you made before. Try a new W8-10 million a month (C$9,500 to C$12,000) in a bar, W18-24 million (C$21,000 to C$28,500) a month in a massage parlor guaranteed. Advances possible. We take care of visas and bad credit.'"

It's high time America dropped its puritanical posturing and allowed consenting adults the right to do with their bodies what they so choose. The biggest prositutes in America are the politicians. Talk about wh0res! |

If that's true, why haven't they legalized it yet?
Sounds pretty similar to here. Politician ajosshis often spend a few million a night in a room salon.

It's nothing about being puritanical. It's a concern about attracting other crimes. It would be nice if it worked a certain way, but unfortunately it's pretty impossible to regulate, and people don't want a Snoop Dogg on every corner selling poon. |

This has nothing to do with collateral crime(s) and everything to do with legislating morality. Look at the hotbeds (no pun intended) of prostitution in the world and you won't see excessive collateral crimes. How much crime, in the support/pursuit of poon, did you see in Amsterdam, Bangkok, and other notorious red-light districts? And, I would never suggest pimpin' to be done on every corner but in regulated brothels, like in Oz. |

Koreans just don't get it- prostitution is not an acceptable everyday activity in the west. Its frowned upon. It is seen as a low life activity- a last resort for crack whores and sad/lonely men! You actually get busted for it!
But in planet Korea its as normal and expected as getting your car washed or taking the dog for a walk. |

Thank you for posting that absolutely disgusting video regarding voting fraud by our (US) elected officials. That is truly disgusting and reprehensible behavior. It's even more obscene that the Speaker doesn't even enforce the rules that are so blatantly broken. |

These 3 Korean women are victims. Let me explain why
1. They went to the US and expereinced racism to the degree that they could not secure a job.
2. They were quickly corrupted by American values, or lack thereof.
3. All 3 came from healthy/wholesome families and were pure when in Korea.
4. American men have a strong attraction to Korean women because Korean women are the most beautiful in the world, so they are forced into having sex. |
