Am new so bit clueless on places to get good deals. (This is through a place a few people recommended.)

I'm from L.A. and that sounds a bit steep to me. See if you can get deals under 1.000.000 (taxes and surcharges included) by calling travel agents in Korea. Xanadu Travel sometimes hooks people up with awesome deals to L.A. and Kangsan Travel has given me nice deals.

There is a slight chance that some folks will jump on here soon and tell you not to use those agencies because "they suck b*lls," but I can confidently say that they do have good deals from time to time (because I tried them). Give them a call and ask what they can arrange for you. Good luck!

Ta for the replies. It is a round trip price. Checked out a website randomly found on a Google search and saw prices for this month around a million...which made it seem better.

Def going to call a few more places tomorrow though.

Cheers,

Val

Thanks for the imput.

The travel agent wants ALL the cash by next Monday (which is totally not possible as I have not been paid properly yet). Is this normal? I thought a deposit would suffice......

Unless you are flying within 30 days or want the ticket ASAP it is NOT reasonable.

It used to be that you could reserve a ticket and wait to pay. Many Korean travel agents now insist that you pay for the ticket immediately. They were playing a fare game with us for a long time, not giving prices, and charging as much as 500,000 RT price difference, depending on which day you flew. People responded by booking multiple flights on different airlines or with different agents -- hoping for one to work out, or be priced better.

The agents/airline response has been to require immediate payment (or within a day or two) of booking the flight. This way, they can more easily squeeze every penny out of every flight, and pack them as full as possible.

In the USA, it's gotten so bad that if weather hampers a flight, passengers can be stranded on the ground for days waiting for room on another flight. If it's due to weather, the airline takes 0 responsibility for it, and they tell you that. It's insane. I got stuck in Minneapolis for 2 days, and was given no compensation other than a few meal tickets to eat at the airport. I was living there for two days. A TV crew from a local station was coming out to interview me, and others stuck in the mess, but I managed to catch a flight right before the interview. All hotels and motels were booked-out in the area, and I would have had to pay for them on my own dime anyway.

Bassexpander...that sounds horrific.

As for my travel agent...I am more than happy to put down a deposit but paying for the whole thing like NOW is impossible. Very frustrating situation.
