So jealous. I can't make it. The guy is a genius. He composed the score for "The Mission" and it's one of my all time faves.

So, I got back from the Morricone gig.

Verdict?

The music was very good. The orchestra played well. The singer called in for the spaghetti western stuff was excellent.......

.......but I wasn't overly entertained. I thought the show could have been enhanced in a few ways.

I guessed there would be clips of the movies played on the big screens during the performance. No.

The sound was a little quiet and muddy.

The Seoul Olympic gymnasium is not an asthetically pleasing venue.

However, Ennio got three encores and a standing ovation. I stood, but I felt I was standing for his contribution to film music over the years and not for the package on offer in Seoul tonight.

Overall, I thought it was a good show. I agree about the sound and venue though. It was way too quiet for my liking. If I was to go back in time I would fork out the extra money to sit on one of those black seats in the sweet spot.

In response to the last post, ticket prices have nothing to do with "if it's not from korea, jack up the price. it's mostly due to government taxes, and lack of quality advertising. loads of korean shows prices are jacked up. for instance, big mama(korean act) had a concert two years ago with boyzIImen opneing and the prices, i believe, were well above 50,000.

windy city had a show at the ritz last summer and tix were 72,000.i love this band, to me one of the best, if not the best korean band, but no way would i have paid 72,000. luckily i got free tix.

on a side note, ozomatli are coming to seoul on oct. 11. they are playing at ghost theater in hongdae. tickets are 55,000 and can be purchased by calling interpark or going to the interpark website.

this is likely to be the first of many indie shows coming to seoul leading up to next year's pentaport rock festival.

Its Ennio Morricone 200.000 for the best seats is cheap actually!
think about it.. One of the best composers in the world today is playing in front of you! THE BEST !! 200 dollars!! think about it..

were the 200.000 won seats sold out?

ennio seems like the kind of event where alot of RIch and famous would attend so those prices are cheap...

I think I'm a bit out of touch, I-guy and recursive.

When I went to concerts regularly in the UK in the late 90's, it would be exceptional to pay more than 25 quid (50,000 won) for a concert ticket. And that would be for world-famous legends. Rolling Stones, Dylan, Springsteen, U2, Radiohead. The front-of-stage VIP area tickets would have been a bit more.

But these days it seems so expensive to go to a concert. Decent seats for a big name in Seoul always seems to be 150,000 or more. 3 times more than what I paid for those same names just 8 years ago.

But, I only paid 60,000 for Morricone, and it was a privilege to see a great composer. Let's face it, he's 79 or something. He's not going to get around to playing Seoul again!!

The crowd was a real mix. Lots of Gangnam yuppies there, of course. Desperate to be seen at a cultural event in the best seats. But there were lots of young studenty Koreans there too. In the cheap seats!

I agree. It was great seeing him and the orchestra perform some classics.
However, the sound was too low, the seats were excruciatingly uncomfortable, and i was bothered by the hordes/crowds of people who were late and kept on coming in to the arena 20/30/40 minutes late...

It was a good attempt at inviting such a famous composer to Seoul. Yet, the Korean organizers still have something to learn about "Class."
