BRUSSELS A ten-year-old Belgium girl gave birth to a baby boy last year, according to Expatica News.
The pregnancy came as a 'big' surprise to the girl, says Dr. Robert Chef who examined the girl.
According to Expatica, the doctor said the 10-year-old came to him with "unexplained abdominal pain." He said he noticed the girl gained some weight and after examining her, he discovered that she was nine months pregnant, the website reported.

The father was reportedly a 13-year-old schoolmate.
According to Chef, the grandmother of the 10-year-old girl said she would raise the baby as her own.

Kids grow up so fast nowadays.
Its pretty crazy. There are siblings that have a bigger age gap than this girl and her child. |

I am 13 years older than my sister.
Kids really are hitting their pubescent benchmarks faster but unfortunately the maturity....not so much...
My own sister got her period at 10 So sadly, I don't find this story to be that shocking in a way... |

Modern diet. Hormones in the food.
Apparently you can bring on the start of puberty by eating certain processed foods (saw it on Oprah ). |

I understand that in ancient times, people did have kids while still being kids themselves as people didn't live much past 30 and often died much younger. People started being an adult at the age of 10 such as King Tut in ancient Egypt and would be dead before their kids became adults as we know it today. Kids being adults is generally not acceptable nor practical in modern times though. The young parents need to have the means to raise a kid which may or may not be provided by their own parents and it does not fit into our model of childhood that goes to the age of 18. In ancient times, all family generations stayed on the same property and supported itself in a utilitarian manner while today, each individual are typically on their own which requires money.
These kids are too young to be having kids, but it is true that it's natural for 10 year olds to start being little adults. I would have a cow if it was my daughter. |

| I remember vaguely that in many agricultural three generations live together or near each other so that the grandparents are the primary care givers of small children. |

LOL
You might be surprised at what age most kids have sex in Europe.
Most kids lose their virginity in high school. There is even a very good documentary on teenage pregnancies in Belgium, but it is in Dutch.
At least we are not as hypocritical as many other countries who swear their kids don't do sex until they are allowed to.
Too bad he was a bit too young to learn how to use the condom, I learned it when I was 14, a bit too late imho.
BTW, luckily Belgium has a good social system, and it will try to help these kids cope with life. It won't be easy.
What is really weird is that i can't find an article on the Belgium news sites. |

I think the age in Belgium is 18. Also, if aquiring a drivers license is anything like in Spain or France, it'll cost almost 2,000 Euro just to obtain one. |
