I left in June, before the realignment date, and I'm returning in about a month.
My question is, how has the realignment affected Seoul? Are Itaewon and parts of Hongdae still crawling with GIs? Have any of the businesses catering to foriegners shut down?
Cheers. |

Everything is exactly the same as usual.
I believe its 2005 when the soldiers relocate. |

I don't know what the "F" you talking about; Itaewon still crawling with GI's! Itaewon has more tourists than GI's! Go see for yourself. Anyday of the week during the day when military are at work, Itaewon is full of non military people. Crawling was the wrong word to use. It sounds like you have a problem with American military people. And even if the status has changed, realignment, etc... how does that affect you!? Don't mind me, just my rant.

easy there, tiger.
i would imagine that the op wouldn't have been as familiar with itaewon during the day while the military was at work, as he himself would have been at work as well. itaewon is more of a night and weekend hotspot for us english teachers, during which time it's not entirely unfair to say that it's 'crawling' with gi's.
and the op doesn't really seem to be talking trash about the military. i think a lot of us can relate to bad situations in itaewon and hongdae involving the u.s. military. realignment could easily affect any of us who frequent those places, if it means that there are suddenly less rowdy soldiers roaming around in them. even if it didn't affect the op or any of the rest of us, he was just asking some simple questions that don't really need to be justified in order to be asked. this is a free discussion forum, after all. and i, for one, think the op asked a question that a lot of us were interested in knowing the answer to.
ak-ak-ak-ak-ak-ak.... kaboom!!
it really is the sound of freedom. |
