[b]Hi All I am staying in korea with my husband.
We are planning pregnancy in future. I am concerned about the hospital charges in korea. Please share ur info with me if anyone has given birth to their babies in korea. also give some info abt the insurance. Till now we have not taken any health insurance. Since my husband is a research scholar he is not covered. And we want the best insurance in small money.
What will be the best option for insurance?

How not to pay for insurance for the past year!

Lose your ARC card, go to immigration to get a new card. With your new ARC card, go to the Health Insurance office to get your health insurance.
I know a few people who have done this and it has worked.
Myself included.

I was a researcher and I was always covered by the government insurance. I don't think the fees are that high, it's probably best to just get it and pay up. Although, I don't really know.

It will be a big amount which we will have to pay for the last year
is there any private insurance which I could take and which covers pregnancy too?

My wife took out a special insurance for pregnancy, I think about 35k a month. I think it was to cover any unexpected difficulties.

why don't you just talk to an insurance company? Seems like you are going to a lot of trouble to find out something that can be cleared up in a matter of minutes, if you talk to the right prople.

Really watch out if there are complications. My wife gave birth 7 weeks early, had to have a c-section, and now baby Noah is in the ICU. It's going to end up costing me 3,000,000 won more than anticipated. Whatever you do, go for the Korean meal, don't choose the foreign meal. Suffer threw it if you can, 15,000 won per meal that is not covered by insurance.

Wish I had known about extra coverage just in case of emergencies. Oh well, my wife and son are worth it. Not arguing about the fact that I have to pay, nor the price, but it put a dent in my pocket.

Cost me 5mil to get my operation on my ankle for my broken leg. 4 days and almost a mil a day.

We just went to get my insurance since I am pregnant now and we really should have it. Even though I got my New ARC card with my F-2-1 visa in March, the insurance office has all my previous records dating back to my FIRST arrival in 2003. As a result they expect me to back pay until that date. The cost is 50,000 per month up until my F-2 started, which is then 10,000 per month. I wish I knew how you could change your ARC card and start over. That would save us a lot of money!

...KumaraKitty, what insurance were you looking to buy?? just interested, in case my wife gets pregnant while we're there. i wouldn't mind having "secondary" insurance, to cover all the loopholes.
