...because I broke the law. I drove without a licence, and the police are going to find out when I go to the sation on Saturday and admit to it.

I'm expecting a large fine of about 3m Won. I'm not sure if they will ask me to pay on the spot. If they do I will be unable to do so.

Besides this, I think my boss has hired someone else and is waiting for them to arrive until he gives me 'notice'. He hasn't told me anything but has said as much to a college. I haven't asked him for a straight answer, partly because i'm not sure I'll get one, but also because I'm not sure what is the best thing to do.

I don't want to leave or get banned from teaching in Korea because I want to save cash for my future plans. Therefore, I am researching getting a new job. It will take some time before I can get my next visa, however, because I need to await new copies of my transcripts which could take about three weeks.

He has said before, when were were discussing my options that he hopes to provide me with a letter of release.

Should I give my 30 days notice and hope he signs the release? Jump the country while I still have money enough to?

Can the experienced posters here offer me any advice on what to do next?

Correct me if I'm wrong. You made no mention of getting arrested by the police. Why admit to a crime AND get fined 3,000,000 Korean Won? Is your director doing anything else that you've not written about in your original post?

Show them your driver's license from your home country and play the dumb foreigner, "I didn't know I needed a Korean license, blah, blah blah"

3 million won for driving without a license? Shocked

I wouldn't be surprised if the OP's director gained knowledge of the OP driving without a licence and forced the OP into going to the police station. If this has happened, go to another city and sell the car. Do it for a very low price.

I was driving a company car, provided for the teachers who work on this program. I slightly touched another car, didn't stop, other owner called the police. The police called the car hire company, then they called my boss saying it was 'hit and run'. I know I was dumb. I don't have a licence at home either.

We went to the police station before. I had paid off the insurance companies (1.1 mil) They said everything was ok, but they didn't ask to see my licence.

I am owed some money from may last job (if they pay) it'll be 1 mil.

I just called the Prof. who's going to the police station with me. He's not really my boss, but he's the main co-ordinater of the show. (Who knew I didn't have a licence saw me driving and waved me off..).

I asked if they are going to fire me and he said 'it hasn't been decided yet'. He's lending me 300,000 won for some unidentified expenses that I might incur on Saturday. I think he might be trying to make a quick buck out of me actually. But in a way he's also being like my laywer.

It's in my contract that if you break the law you breach the conditions of the contract. I guess they are wondering how strict they should be on this. Apparently someone is not happy. But isn't that clause really meant for if you are imprisoned or something? Perhaps this is what they are waiting to find out?
