By and large, I'd say that people who really like sex have a low view of most Western religions. Not all, mind you. After all, there is the example of Jimmy Swaggart.
On the other hand, who really wants their 13 year old daughter running off the pull a train with the football team because you didn't buy her the right brand of running shoes?
It cannot be denied that one element of Christianity is anti-sex (see St. Jerome). On the other hand, in what society has it ever been a positive life strategy to make 3 or 4 babies without a social system in place to help provide for them?
My take is that religion (not the twisted St. Jerome kind) is a primitive attempt to control the socially/economically distruptive effects of sex. |
