|
|
It's my fiance's birthday this weekend and she loves Indian food. I know may threads have been started about Indian food, but I was hoping for an updated version.
Price is not the biggest factor if the food is really good. I'm not too concerned about location either. |

There are a few in Itaewon. Evergreen is pretty nice and so was New Deli. Not to keen on the service there now but when they were owned by that SriLankan couple it was really good. Now it's ok. Not sure if they were from SriLanka but going to say it anyway.
There is a good indian buffet in one of the hotels I think. Basically they are all in Itaewon the ones that I know. |

Friends who know better than I, say there are some good options available in Dongdaemun - a lot cheaper than Itaewon. |

Yes, go to the subway station located one stop past Dongdaemun Station on Line Number 1 or look for the exit that saddles Line Number 6's Dongmyun Station (sp?).
The phone number is: (02)- 766-8850.
Directions: If my memory serves me rightly, go to the top of the stair case of Exit 5 at the latter subway station. When you arrive at the top of the stairs, turn to your right. Walk about, if I'm not mistaken, one hundred feet or so. On the left, You would see a sign (Roman) for the Namaste Restaurant. Walk a little bit more and search for the building's Rear Enterance. When you see it, You would just have to walk up to the 4th Floor.
You might like to note that a 500 c.c. glass of draught beer costs only 2,000 won and the owner would perhaps serve you a generous portion of the crispy, thin, and somewhat spicy thing whose name escapes me presently.
P.M. me for more detailed information.

Man that's cheap - it's your fiance's birthday, and you want to take her to a buffet?
Just splurge a little, and take her to a nice hotel for grub or something, instead of 'Wow I can't believe all these somoosas and tandoori chicken only cost us 15 bucks a head!' kind of thing. |

Maybe his situation is such that splurging is out of the question?

Take her to Taj Palace for their buffet on Saturdays & Sundays. The food and service are top notch.
If you don't mind ordering from the menu, it's way worth it to consider going to Wazwan. It's a small homey Indian restaurant hidden away in the backstreets away from the hussle and bustle of Itaewon's main strip. The food there is excellent and moderately priced and the people working there are nice. Reserve the lone table in the back of the restaurant. It has a romantic night view of the city's lights. Great for a date.
You can find the directions to these places in the Restaurant Sticky Thread in the FAQs section of this site. |

I have narrowed it down to 4 places that seem to come highly recomended. The reason she wants buffet is we like variaty and we can both eat like champions. I say cheaper is better becuase she really worries about cost and won't enjoy a place that's overprised.
Samakan - Ya-ta Boy (He is a good chap) "But if you want #1 DYNAMITE Indian food, hop on the subway (yellow line) to Seohyun, get off, go out the FRONT of Samsung Plaza, walk to the end of the plaza and turn right. Just around the corner, across the street, up on the second floor is Samakan."
Everest - itiger fancini "in Dongdaemun has the best naans I've had outside of the Balti triangle in Birmingham. Some good curries too, but I feel they need a little more variety and choice. Even so, the garlic naans are wicked!"
Namaste Restaurant- Roch " You might like to note that a 500 c.c. glass of draught beer costs only 2,000 won and the owner would perhaps serve you a generous portion of the crispy, thin, and somewhat spicy thing whose name escapes me presently."
Taj Palace - Dev "Take her to Taj Palace for their buffet on Saturdays & Sundays. The food and service are top notch." |

The Pooja in Dongdaemun is an awesome little place. It's very close to Everest about 500m from Exit #3. Very nice ambiance, really friendly staff and the food is excellent. The naan bread is the best I have had ANYWHERE (and me born & raised in Brum and been round India & Nepal several times...). Hey JAWINSEOUL - give it a try, really.
Anyway, if you really must have a buffet it's maybe not the place for you but if you want to try the best chicken curry outside of Sparkhill (or, for that matter, northern India) give their chicken tikka makhani a try. They have excellent thali, veg and non-veg., also.

How about Ganga in Yeouido? I haven't been, but a Korean friend recommended it.

We had Sunday brunch at Taj Palace and it was pretty good. The food was a little bland compared to the places I visited in Canada, but we had a great time.
My fiance worries about money, so the cost $15.00 was perfect for her and left plenty of room for her to go clothes shopping with my credit card.
I also needed a buffet beause my knowledge of Indian dishes is limited.
Thanks for all the suggestions. |

Went to Mogul last night with 9 mates on a bachelor party. Still pooping molten lava today. Boy it was good. |
