What songs do folks recommend? |
Their Caress of Steel album |
I'm a bit of a sucker for their cheesy 2112 album. If you ignore the cheesiness of the theme, it's f**king excellent music.

And I'll recommend Moving Pictures. Has the classics Tom Sawyer, YYZ, Red Barchetta and so on and so forth. |

| My friends and I actually made this guy cry at uni because we kept ragging on him how looked exactly like the dude from the "Subdivisions" video. Now that I think of it, my uni friends and I were really a$$es. Funny $hit though when you're drunk and seeing a 20 year-old man cry from being called names. Thanks Rush! Good times! |

I also like their album titled "Rush" - my two favourite tracks off that one are probably "Working Man" and "Finding My Way" ...and perhaps "In the Mood" (though that's a bit cheesy too - I rather like its crassness) |
Reminding me of Crassness. Crass were an eighties punk band. Thought musically they left a lot to be desired they were miles ahead of Rush.
I'd take the four chord punk song over Rush's annoying guitar solo's any day. |

I'm listening to Tom Sawyer and YYZ as I type and it's very uncontroversial rock. Why Rush produce strong sentiments yet, say, Black Sabbath or Deep Purple do not, I don't know.
Rush are one of those bands like Dire Straits, Lynyrd Skynyrd or Marillion - unfashionable but very good. |

Yeah, Crass were important (more important than good, but still). Yay Crass! |

Rush is one of those bands I can listen to one or two songs of. The bass is usually pretty good, at least. I'm listening to YYZ right now. Not bad.

Check it out for yourself if you don't believe me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iONLKn5VHY4 |

Bands I've tried to listen to and like, becuase everyone told me how f*cking great they are, that I don't like:
1. RUSH
2. Pink Floyd
3. Queen
4. Radio Head
I've tried, oh I've tried!
But they just don't interst me at all. |

*GASP*
But the laws of the world claim that you must have the same tastes as everyone else you talk to!
Or at least you need to lie convincingly enough about it that everyone will like you. |

I agree that the world says you must like Pink Floyd and Queen, but Rush? The geek band (hobbits rear their gnomish heads, I think, somewhere in their discography, although I can vouch that said hobbits don't appear in a moiety of songs) whose singer Geddy Lee sang "Witch Hunt" based on a personal experience? One is "under pressure" to like Rush?
Anyway, they are lame in a lot of ways, but Limelight, The Big Money, Subdivisions, and Free Will are decent songs. Vital Signs, Time Stand Still, New World Man--all listen-able. |

Yeah and that cheesy keyboard part before the solo was pretty lame too.
What are those trinkets that the drummer is hitting, that makes the gay fairy-like noise? Coke bottle caps? |
