I just accepted a job with a public school in Gangnam. Anyone there now? How is it?

I don't know the public schools there (or anywhere, really), but Gangnam is the "rich" part of Seoul. There's plenty to do there, but it's a little spendier than most of the city. Fairly central, also.

A good first place to be in Korea, all things considered.

My fiancee and I live in Bundang, another nice area of Korea. We take small day trips to Gangnam, it is really nice. You should enjoy your stay.

I started teaching for the school district last month and so far so good. They'll set you up with good housing and the pay is better than most of the hagwons as well. How things go with your teaching is kind of up to the individual school you teach at. Each school is a little different. Some will place you with a Korean co-teacher while others will not. Some will have you teach older kids (5-6 grade) while others might place you with very young children (1-2 grade). Some schools will ask that you teach the national curriculum while others will let you make any lesson plan you want. The district office is pretty good at offering support and helping you out. If you like teaching kids and enjoy creating and implementing your own plans, then things should be good for you.

Living in Gangnam ain't bad, but will be expensive. If you're looking to save money, having temptations left and right isn't going to help. Soon enough you may find you're spending money on stuff you want, not need.
