PYONGYANG - President Roh has signed a peace agreement which includes the transfer of 50% of current foreign English teachers from South Korea to the North. Details of selection have yet to be worked out.
"Apparently, this is perfectly legal," said one official. |

RR's schtick is finding articles that make SK look bad, mostly in relation to foreigners. Don't expect much from that department, unless that post above about 50% of waygookin teachers being sent north is true. Even then, he'd only complain if the Norks didn't give tenure to foreign teachers. |

How do the South Koreans feel about the summit? I've read a few quotes in the JA Daily where people said something along the lines of, "It's just a political ceremony, nothing to get excited about", but haven't seen any surveys of public opinion.
It should be obvious to anyone following this that Kim is taking full advantage of Roh's naivety and desperation to get something siginificant done diplomatically. He didn't bring up the hostage issue, and only half-heartedley pressed the nuclear issue, because he didn't want to offend Kim. I don't know why he thinks if he's nice enough to the North that eventually they'll return the favor.
I'd say we shouldn't expect anything significant to happen regarding the North until after Kim dies. They've built up a massive personality cult around him, promoting the idea that he's infallible. If the outside world comes in (which'll have to happen if they want to grow economically), they'll bring the news that Kim has been a complete failure as a leader. I can't see Kim allowing that. He might dismantle nuclear weapons in exchange for massive bribes, but I don't think he'll ever allow economic or political reform. |

The highlight of the summit. Doesn't anyone have video of this?
http://joongangdaily.joins.com/article/view.asp?aid=2881142
"Before the luncheon, Roh and First Lady Kwon Yang-sook visited an auto plant in Nampo city, about a 50-minute drive from Pyongyang. The plant produces about 1,000 vehicles per year, with 216 employees.
Roh and Kwon got in a sedan called Junma, manufactured with auto parts from South Koreas Ssangyong Motors, and started the car. But the car did not move. Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Mong-koo helped the president, but the car still did not move." |

So basically this is the perfect summary of the summit:
Roh the dope goes to North Korea, gets in a Nork car that like most things in that country doesnt work, and the guy who tries to help him out is a convicted criminal. I see Chung went up to the North. A criminal meeting with a criminal regime. How beautiful. |

Speaking of career criminals, dodgy investments, products etc, Moon Syun Myuong is heavily invested in the north in automotives & arms, along with God only knows what else |
