Plus, some people's pages are so full of crap they're hard to read, or take forever to load, or blast loud crappy music every time you go to their page. What's stupid is you can set the song on your own profile not to play when you view it, but not when you look at other people's pages.
Myspace sucks. |
SO TRUE!
Yeah, myspace DOES take forever to load, and they load some crappy music you don't want to hear, and have no choice NOT to hear.
I go there so seldom, I forgot how much myspace really sucks. |

The average MySpace page looks like someone vomited code onto my screen.
In order to see Facebook, you need to join Facebook.
Final grade on both:

Whenever I use myspace, I search for the music player on EVERY DAMN PAGE as it's loading. Usually I can find and disable it before it finishes loading and starts playing.
I like Facebook. I don't use it much, but I prefer it to Myspace which is all spam and lousy coding. |

| Wifey uses Facebook. One day I decided to see what all the fuss was about. I didn't get it. Seemed like a high schoolesque popularity contest to see who could amass the most 'friends.' The groups seemed pretty dumb (if 1,000,000 people join this group, I'll dress up like a chicken) and the applications gay (BillyBob just sent you and Jack and Coke using Booze Mail ...). Overall, I reckon it's a collosal waste of time. I keep in touch with old friends via email and the telephone. Works for me. Anyone I'm not in touch with I figure is because they were a tosser to begin with, or I simply couldn't be arsed. |

Facebook is better all around. You don't have to deal with the clutter of MySpace pages. It has a cleaner look. You don't have to search the internet for code to customize your profile. It's much easier to search. I find it much easier to connect with old friends on Facebook than on MySpace.
It has some really great applications. It has a blog function. You can write blog "notes" and even import "notes" from your regular blog. It has RSS functions. You can insert a Flicker feed. You can do a lot more with photos. The Picnik app allows you to edit your photos without leaving Facebook. It has so many options for customizing your page.
Facebook is the winner. |

I agree with the general tone of comments and that facebook is a lot more "user friendly". That said, I think facebook risks providing all and nothing, with its application approach. I think it really has to start thinking what it wants to be (and also the question about generating income -- good article in the economist about that - basically its value is huge but it has no known PRESENT income generating potential.....).
Has anyone used Ning? www.ning.com Search for some communities. Community based, I have my own, see the link in my sig. A great way for a classroom to meet or a group. Much more visual and friendlier even than facebook. Ning also has young developers responding to creators needs (for example I have the source code, a thing facebook would NEVER provide).
