your profile says 'masan'. i'd have regret having gone there as well. sounds like you just accepted the first internet ad you came across. |

From the Masan city web site:
With 9 scenery and 5 foods (but 315 park!), how could it possibly go wrong???
Seriously though sorry about your experience there so far. Is it the city, or where you work? (or both?)
...
Hey I've just gone back and read some of your previous posts. Hopefully you can walk away from this situation and go elsewhere. |

| I wonder if you can live with it a year, save some coin. If you go back to China, you'll be in a much better position financially. |

Yep. Try to make the best of it. Maybe go out, meet some people and do something.
BTW- if you're in a hogwan, things won't get better. If you're a good teacher and parents see results, you'll only get swamped with more work while the other FT's skate by with cupcake schedules. |

1. Don't take this s!@# so seriously. In the Hindu hierarchy of life, teaching English to Korean children puts you pretty high up there. When you get your check with 4% tax taken off, remember that.
2. You are close to some of the most beautiful parts of this country. Take advantage, and get on a bus for christs sake. It will lift your spirits, and cost you peanuts.
3. Go drinking with some Koreans. They will appreciate you more, and you will know them better. There are alot of cool Koreans, but you gotta take their mask off.
4. You're not in Taiwan or China. I know it can suck, but life is not about wishing you were somewhere else. You left those other places for a reason. Get on with making a good life here. I'd say you are definitely living in the past, and that is not healthy. In my first month in Korea, I had no time to analyze Koreans, I was too busy soaking in a new country, and drinking, eating new foods, and meeting new people-Korean and Foreign. Throw yourself into the scene, challenge yourself to see how many new things you can do in a month.
Good luck! |

#3 is good advice. Find some decent Koreans and put some time into getting to know them. They can be GREAT friends. |

Friends, yes. But not co-workers. Forget about them- Korean or whities. |

| I agree with blaseblasphemener's advice (and what wylies99 said about finding people outside work). If things at work are stable, then try to find things to do outside work. |

i was in the honeymoon stage here for my first eight months: never had a bad day
if i ever have a string of bad days and want to be somewhere else: i will be
life is too short to waste a year doing what you don't want: just leave if you want to
go back to china or taiwan or give japan a try
good luck whatever |

The three Bs.
Booze, Babes & (motor)Bikes.
The causes & solutions to all of life's problems.
Collect all three!
But first, get your ass back online and tell us what is so bad about Masan and by extension Korea, and what was so good about China & Taiwan. I'm not doubting you, nor looking for a debate. I'm just in need of some juicy real-life angst, preferably not my own. |
