Just watched Kid Rock on Larry King, who on a side note is a surprisingly charming fellow and he was talking about life/love/divorce with you know who. His comment on marriage: "Getting married was great, being married sucked!"
Coming off of this Fatherhood 2.0 thread as well, im curious about married men and their lifestyle.
Especially if ur answer is Yes and No, marriage is harder than I thought, which i suspect will be the most selected answer, what was unexpected and difficult aspects of tying the knot? |

mariage is great. It makes a man out of a boy. It gives you responsibilities which mature you. Single men are boys, end of story. Im better off any way you cut it. I have a partner in life who supports me, Im better off financially than I could ever be as a single man. |

Wot he sed.
I recommend a v.long engagement, to make sure it's what you really want, but in the long run it's well good. Life is different, but in an intangible way. Hard to describe.
When we left the RoK, my wife sed- I don't care if you do yr PhD, or drive a truck. Seems silly but it means a lot. |

No more thinking for yourselves?
A good excuse to not have sex regularly other than striking out at the bar?
Free laundry service?
If the desire for an argument arises, you'll have someone handy?
Do tell us, fellows. |

As a single man, I'm offended.
...and most marriages might start out great, but most of them also don't last.
After divorce settlements, they turn these "men" into crying little boys... who have responsibilities like paying alimony on top of the settlement... yeah, that matures you.
You don't *have* to be married in order to have a partner who supports you. You just felt you needed some sort of government validation on the love you have with your girlfriend.
And unless you're marrying someone who makes more than you, you're *not* better off financially than you are as a single man.
...hmm, actually I'm starting to think you were being sarcastic. |

another boy...shouldnt this board have a maturity minimum?
as far as finances, in 5 years of marriage I was able to put down 175,000 US, all cash in one go, for an apartment. This is not something Id be able to do as a sex obsessed boy whose biggest priority in life is screwing any tramp in a bar who will have him. |

There have been a number of times I came across information relating to income and assets of single and married men. One set of graphs in particular, but which was pdf so can't image a graph on here, showed that married men in their 40's with one child had double the personal assets of on average than a single man of the same age.
With two children the bar goes down about 10-15%.
I do wonder how many single men lost the family house causing the low result.
mmm...
Choose carefully. |

One reason to get married in this country is for the F visa. I'd kill for one of those (and sooner kill than get married ) |

I'm going to add my 2 cents about marriage for men:
Home-cooked meals
Babying when sick with a cold
Back scratches, hugs, kisses etc etc etc
Someone who'll listen
A *nice* home to come home to
A partner in crime |

Marriage life is great; much better than when I was single. My wife is really good to me. In all honesty, I don't think I deserve her. As someone previously stated, I get backrubs, etc. all the time, I get nice...REALLY NICE home-cooked meals ergo why I don't look the way I want to look. haha. She tells me she likes to keep me looking 'comfortable' because other women know that a 'comfortable' looking man is one that is most-likely married. I am pampered and supported in everything I do. Vice-versa.
Marriage is a wonderful thing. I never knew that when you get married, you really don't need anyone else in your life. We are each other's best friend, best companion, best lover, you name it. It's great. |
