| As a longtime reader and first time poster, I'm just wondering why, if anyone has a complaint about South Korea and wishes to vent it on a forum which is supposedly open to this sort of thing, the dingbats and lifers instantly spring to the defense of an otherwise indefensible country. Is it due to too much D and D, or the fact that most of those doing the defending could never cope in the real world? Just wondering. |

This kind of thread appears every week. The problem is that many people who come to live and work in South Korea have no idea of what live will be like here and subsequently do not prepare themselves for the many changes that will occur. Openness and adaptability are very important when moving to another culture - some people can hack it and some can't. Look at footballers (soccer players), for example: Gary Lineker adapted brilliantly in Japan due to his willingness to learn Japanese culture and the language. Other, more inwardly-looking people fared less well. |

| Thank you for your rather shallow insight into cultural adaptability etc, but from what I have seen from some of your postings Butlerian, you are among the guilty in upbrading and belittling those who have genuine problems with the culture here. Just wondering if its a bit of overcompensation? |

By implying that this isn't the "real world", you mean that this is some ficticious fantasy land? That where you come from is so much better and superior to an inferior land, people and occupation?
Strange...I live, I breath, I feel joy and pain, I have responsibilities, I work, I pay bills, I owe money, I have friends, I have a love, death is as easily obtainable as life here. And yet...this isn't the real world?
Damnit, where's Tinkerbell when I need her that bloody wench with wings! Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts...I, I, just can't cope! I guess I'd rather be a "dingbat" with pride than live in your "real world". |

Ignore Butlerian.
Korea is a bizarre place, even more so when one has lived in/traveled to other Asian countries. This place will frustrate you on a daily basis. Find your niche here, make money, date the girls, make more money, think about your vacation coming up, make even more money, watch Miike Takashi movies to see just how much cooler life on the other side of the pond is, earn more money, and complain about Korea incessantly. Does the job for me. |

I thought he was THE man for a long time and liked his films as he and Mifune were great at being the anti-heros. Then I saw Takeshi's "comedy" appearances on day-time television in Japan and I lost all respect for him. |
