I'm looking for something more remote and less touristy. Basically somewhere to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air...

Jirye (sometimes spelled Jillye or Jiri) Mountain is pretty beautiful. Some parts are touristy, but you should be able to find plenty of parts where it won't be. You'll get plenty of stares though!

Do you have a car? If not, look into hiring one, get a road map, and lose yourself along the backroads of Gangwon or Gyeongnam provinces. One good way to get away from the maddening crowds is to take your own form of transport. Miryeung Valley immediately springs to mind as a quiet and scenic bit of nature.
