Ran into another expat at the pension office, and learned that he is eligible for the Korean monthly pension payments. He is a New Zealander and has been here for over 10 years, and about to turn 60. Didn't know this was possible. Apparently money has been taken out of his paycheck and matched at most of the jobs he has been at without him knowing about it. He knew of this from a previous visit, and was quite surprised that he had accumulated as much as he had.

The Korean pension office will pay the monthly payements into any bank in the world for as long as he lives. Others I have heard have been sitting on other pensions in their home countries and collecting the Korean pension as well. Seems as though your not disqualified from anything if you can get a pension from this part of the world.

Didn't know New Zealanders could get their pension. Isn't it correct that only Canada and the US have signed the mutual agreement to allow pension collection in each other's countries?

You're thinking about lumpsum refunds. And Australia is also part of that group now. Everyone else can collec the money, but only when they retire.
