I think it is a symbol from one of the political parties. I have seen Chicago White sox's hats and my wife told me that is the symbol of some president to be party. So I guess some other party is using that idea as well.

There's a lot of weird things I can't figure out. Like why is everyone wearing a "Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the place to be!" tshirt? Or why do I see so many tshirts for Beaverton, Oregon. And then there's the popularity of the Daryl Strawberry tshirt.

A friend suggested that maybe these tshirts were manufactured here in Korea and to be sold in America but then the buyer didn't pay for it. Like maybe the roof of the Lebanon, Pennsylvania Rock 'n' Bowl collapsed and killed 4 people on the eve of the city council's plan to roll out their "place to be!" pride campaign. So, they nix the tshirts and now they're trying to sell them here.

So maybe someone thought Detroit was going to go all the way this year and over made Detroit tiger caps.

The Tiger caps go best with a nice "Michigan/London" t-shirt.

I used to wonder about the "Hollister" shirts. I've been to Hollister...it's no Lebanon, PA, that's for sure.

Some real weird ones I've seen here:

Koolhaas (named after Rem, the avant garde architect & theorist?)

Hakim Bey? (named after the pseudonym of "temporary autonomous zone" post-modern anarchy theorist Peter Lamborn Wilson?)

AMM (named after the seminal "laminal" free improvisation band led by Keith Rowe, Eddie Prevost, and John Tilbury, which once featured ultra-radical composer--and Maoist--Cornelius Cardew?!?)

Somebody somewhere's pulling a fast one.

I haven't seen those...but I did live in Portland Oregon, and Beaverton is a huge Korean area. When I lived in Busan, they have a large Oregon connection. Beaverton is popular in Busan, haven't noticed so much in Seoul though. Interesting you mentioned Beaverton though!

All I see EVERYWHERE is NY Yankees CRAP. EVERYWHERE. Rolling Eyes

Since the tigers made the world series last year, the population feels able to wear them along side their other "safe bet" sporting paraphernalia like yankess caps, manchester jerseys, and the like.

Holly crap! I was thinking of posting something on those damn hats for about a week now. I figured no one else would know what I am talking about. It turns out you guys notice these orange Detroit Tigers hats around too.

I've seen 5 people wearing them in a span of about a minute and I was like "WTF"? I also noticed a lot of San Francisco hats in Seoul too. Maybe it has something to do with the color orange?

Anyway, you are not alone. I see way too many of these damn hats...it's getting annoying.

I've noticed another trend...those black and white stripped long sleeve shirts. Last Friday I had a class where 6 out of 10 students wore some version of the black and white long shirt/T-shirt. Its very strange.

I think it just comes down too a limited choice of clothes. I guess the garment industry is closed to foreign imports or at least dominate the market like most other industries here. The kids can only buy the limited Korean "style" that is offered to themKind of like why there are so many of the same Kias on the road instead of a mix of imports and domestic cars.

It's about time people recognize the D. For years Detroit has always been the world's punchline for any joke dealing with poverty and violence. Don't even let me get started on the football, Detroit Lions. People actually have every right to make fun of that team.

Being a Detroiter, I'm actually sick of people wearing the Olde English D as well. I love the Tigers, have a few hats that I wear proudly, but I hate seeing people wear the hat because the Tigers have turned into a winng baseball team. It just shows that Koreans love a winner and will only support winners.

While we're on the subject of hats, what's with all the color changes on baseball hats, such as a black New York Yankees hat with a black NY or gold Olde English D? I blame the MLB store in Korea, not sure who to blame for those in the States
