I've watched every olympic boxing tournament since 1980 and there are bad bad descions in every single olympics I have watched, in every single tournament the officials get wined and dined by the hosts and it is just basically a mess.

The Jones vs Park is the fight everyon focuses on but I urge you get hold of the Ray Mercer vs Hyun Man Baik gold medal heavyweight fight because that was a cracker.

Baik, described by Mercer as 'the biggest Korean I have ever seen' steamed out of his corner and walloped Mercer with some huge punches before Mercer beats the living crap out of him before winning by a TKO in the 1st.

I only faintly remember that fight, but I clearly remember thinking that the Baik vs Golota fight was incredibly boring.

Park should have gave his gold to Roy Jones. That would have been the right thing to do.

You've watched "Best of the Best" way too many times.

What I find more sad is I can't find one child who knows the '88 Olympics were held in Seoul.

1) a guy from high school was there in 88 in the heavyweight division and got pretty far--I think ended up losing in the quarters because a bad cut led to ref stoppage--then went to the 92 Games and got killed early on (Tom Glesby, if anyone can get footage)

2) several other people I trained with went to the 88, 92, and 96 Games for rowing. Had I weighed 30 pounds more, I would have come to the 88 Games myself (rowing in 88 only had Heavyweight class; Lightweight wasn't introduced until 92. Bastages!)

I remember Tom Glesby fighting as a pro and saw his fight vs Robert Davis, Glesby was tough and he was brave. Decent fighter, there doesn't seem to be any videos on him on youtube but there is

Hyun Man Baik knocking seven bells out of Andrew Golota in the Seoul
olympics at heavyweight, Baik had what you call an interesting style for a heavyweight and I would love to get hold of his 1 round bar room brawl with Ray Mercer for the gol medal. Can any fluent Korean speakers translate the commentary?

Glebsy's pro career didn't last long. As an amateur he was damned impressive... threw some wicked bombs, and went undefeated for what seems forever. After the '92 Games, when he went pro, I dunno, seemed like he lost something. I think the '92 Games were a huge disappointment and it affected his later fights (IMO).
