I got experience teaching kindy in Korea....don't want to go through a recruiter....i want 2.2, key money, and a housing allowance. where are the jobs in Seoul that can offer this????
anyone know of a good hagwon that needs someone ASAP???

That should be an easy gig to land.
I would recommend aiming slightly higher. Unless you have no experience. |

As long as you are legal, Why not use a recruiter?
They are an introduction to an employer. Use as many as you need to find what you want. If they send you crap, just say no and move on to the next offer. They don't work for you but you are NOT obligated to them either. Be firm and clear in what you want. Don't accept anything less.
A recruiter is nothing more than an introduction to an employer.

Beyond that it is YOUR responsibility to check the school out.
Do your own DUE DILLIGENCE in regards to the school or get burned.
Use the recruiters for what they are. Use more than one and keep going until you get what you want. There is no rush and there is certainly no shortage of jobs.
When it comes to the school - again - repeat - Do your own DUE DILLIGENCE.
Do NOT trust ANY recruiter. They are like used car salesmen. They will lie and sell their soul to get the signature on the contract.
1st - READ the contract over very carefully. If that doesn't scare you away then....
The best you can do is minimize the risk by talking to MORE THAN ONE of the foreign staff and ask POINTED AND SPECIFIC QUESTIONS (*when the boss is NOT listening over their shoulder). Don't accept non-specific answers and broad generalizations.
No foreign staff references to talk (directly and via e-mail) to = walk away now.
Accept NO EXCUSES for any reason.
OH, and yes, you certainly should be able to get 2.3-2.4 AND housing in Seoul as an experienced teacher.

| I'm looking for a 2nd year gig right now myself(1 year experience in Bucheon) and am utilizing every recruiter and job board I can find(incl worknplay and dave's). However, I am still having trouble landing a reasonable job. Most offers are for 7 to 9 hours a day for between 2.0 and 2.3 at best. Is it possible to find better or should I go to Korea first and look for a job? What do you think ttompatz(and others)? I don't want to accept something the same or worse as what I was getting last year of 2.1. |
