|
|
A comment by Kermo on the "How hawt are you" thread got me thinking. I haven't really changed my hairstyle since I was in primary school. Now that I'm in my mid-20s, I think it's about time I altered it. My hair is quite fine and has receeded slightly at the front, but not much. See below:
Can anyone make any recommendations for me? I'd really appreciate it. Perhaps using some kind of gel or spray or something to add volume and update the style? |

I think you look just fine as a natural looking guy in the photo. I find this is the best way to go, especially when it comes to working with and around people. I found out when I was younger that over grooming and looking too hansom or spiffy gets unwanted attention and often makes other people feel uncomfortable which is sure to cause you to miss out on many good possibilities.
K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple and Stupid is the best advice I was ever given. |

I was going to reply to this earlier but your hair looks fine Butlerian, no bloke who has it going in most departments needs a 'wacky' hairstyle. You have a smart, short hairstyle thats suits your face shape. No need to change it.
Which brings me to this bloke I knew of at uni - he was about 7ft tall and he had the biggest afro ever - and I despised him for it. Attention seeking prat! |

I clicked on this thread thinking "I should read this. I have no idea about men's hairstyles." Butlerian, I am sorry if I made you feel rotten or self-conscious. I think your fringe doesn't flatter you because a) it looks a bit over-groomed in that picture, as if you've arranged the strands with gel, and b) it highlights the receding forehead rather than masking it.
Having said that, I'm rubbish with actually recommending hairstyles. I think a faux-hawk can look pretty hot in a boyish, devilish tousled sort of way, though I understand why it has its critics. I LOVE a guy with very short-cropped hair, like when a shaved head is growing back. Makes him look a bit tough, which is sexy. I love love love longish, curly hair, especially when it's ginger, but I'm sure I'm in the minority there.
Men's hairstyles that I consider awful:
-the mullet
-the comb-over
-the G.I. long bangs/shaved sides
-long, spiky antenna-like bangs
I can't articulate what makes a haircut cool rather than stodgy or dorky. I don't really *notice* hair unless it's particularly good or bad. I'd be interested to see what the fellows have to say, and how they communicate with their hairdressers. I think Blue Club is really on to something with their numbered menu... |

It looks fine Butlerian. If you're thinking of changing then go for a change, if you really want to. But apart from that it's great.
I think peoples hairstyles change a lot with where people are. When I worked as a chef in Sweden it was grade 2 all over. Until my boss told me girls don't swedish girls don't really dig skin head. SO I grew it. Then my family said it looked a lot better scruffy on top, now I'm in korea it's changed again. If you want to change nobodys really gonna notice it on a guy.
I do however have the tarty confession that I travel to seoul every 7 weeks to have my hair cut at Zen Salon with my english speaking hairdresser. The bus ride takes 2 hours. In a small town of 30 000 people, I ain't trusting no one. I maybe abroad but I don't want a bob!! |

Ah, Kermo, on the contrary: I appreciate your frankness, and any criticism is helpful as it encourages reflection and considering the possibility of change. I actually don't use gel - does anyone think it would be a good idea to use it? Could help with style, I guess, but I'm a complete novice in this area.

Thanks for that, Dome. I had my hair cut yesterday by a local hairdresser. Now it's shorter but essentially the same style at the moment. I might consider doing what you do in going to Seoul as maybe he/she can give me some advice. |

From my metrosexual POV, I find gels and some waxs very greasy and would not be good for the forehead, if you were to use it.
I'm receding a little bit but having it scruffy on top and a bit of 'mud' seems to keep it in it's shape and isn't too greasy. And it can be pushed forward a bit so as not too look like I'm receding. |
