Okay, so I have a friend coming in November. Its freaking me out because I had no idea he was coming, or even that he would want to. But I guess he does. Talk about short notice, he's supposed to arrive in November too.

Anyway, he's asking me for some help and I'm prepared to help him quite a bit. The first thing is that he is married. I told him that his wife could come, but she would only be on a six month tourist VISA and she would have to go back to Canada six months into his contract. I also told him that I wasn't sure about this, and that I would ask to make sure.

Can she stay as long as he's here (is there a loophole for married couples)? Or is she limited to six months? She has no degree so she can't work here.

You are quite wrong here.

First off, she can get a spousal VISA.
Second, why would she have to go back to Canada. A day in Japan is just as good.

Spousal, F3 visa for his wife. Then she can stay for as long as he does.

IF they are LEGALLY married (be sure to being a copy of the marriage certificate) she can get an F3 (dependant family) visa and stay as long as he does.

She has 2 choices:
Get her F3 in advance and come with him.
Come on a tourist stamp and change her status to F3 AFTER he gets his ARC.

She will have to get an ARC when she changes her status.

If they are NOT legally wed, she can come on a tourist stamp. Take a vacation anywhere outside of Korea within the 1st 6 months and get a new stamp when she comes back. Since she is with her partner there won't be any problems or difficulties.

Korea does NOT recognise a common-law relationship in a visa application so a common-law couple cannot get an F3.

Good stuff. They're legally married, so they'll be looking into getting all the Visa stuff done before they come I think.

It's a good excuse to take a vacation. As a Canadian she can go anywhere she wants, not just Japan. As long as she leaves and comes back.
