| Sorry. Canuck here. It would be nice to see the American warmongering end. But I guess being a pacifist makes you a lunatic. Being paranoid of men in caves and supporting the deaths of hundreds of thousands makes you makes you.......? |

It is not being warmonger. Just get the Bathists , the Khomeni followers and the Al qaedists to give up their war. Then there will be no problem.
Invading a country to steal their oil is wrong. Invading to stop war is justified.
You are not a pacifist. You are only against war by the US.
The US action in Iraq saved lives.
Saddam would have killed off the Kurds had the US not protected them. And Saddam would have invaded Kuwait again.
Anyone who says they oppose the Iraq war on humanitarian grounds is either disingenuous or ignorant which are you?

Saddam Hussein's government may have executed 61,000 Baghdad residents, a figure much higher than previously believed, a new study suggests.
The bloodiest massacres of Saddam's 23-year presidency occurred in Iraq's Kurdish north and Shi'ite Muslim south, but the Gallup Baghdad Survey data indicates the brutality also extended into the capital.
The survey asked 1178 Baghdad residents in August and September whether a member of their household had been executed by Saddam's regime, with 6.6 per cent saying yes.
The polling firm took metropolitan Baghdad's population of 6.39 million people, and average household size of 6.9 people, to calculate that 61,000 people were executed during Saddam's rule.
Past estimates were in the low tens of thousands. Most are believed to have been buried in mass graves.
The US-led occupation authority in Iraq has said at least 300,000 people were buried in mass graves in Iraq.
Human rights officials put the number closer to 500,000, and some Iraqi political parties estimate more than 1 million people were executed.
Without exhumations of the mass graves, it is impossible to confirm a figure.
Scientists said during a recent investigation that they had confirmed 41 mass graves on a list of suspected sites that covers 270 locations. |
Saddam Hussein was worse than Idi Amin.

Secondary Level of Mass Murderers:
Obviously, we're going to run into the same vagueries and uncertainties when we try to rank numbers 4 through 10 on the list of the 20th Century's worst killers, but at least we can nominate the candidates. A pretty good case could be made that each of the following rulers (listed alphabetically) were responsible for over a million unjust, unnecessary or unnatural deaths by initiating or intensifying war, famine, democide or resettlement, or by allowing people under their control to do so:
* Chiang Kai-shek (China: 1928-49)
* Enver Pasha (Turkey: 1913-18 )
* Hirohito (Japan: 1926-89)
* Hirota Koki (Japan: 1936-37)
* Ho Chi Minh (North Vietnam: 1945-69)
* Kim Il Sung (North Korea: 1948-94)
* Lenin (USSR: 1917-24)
* Leopold II (Belgium: 1865-1909)
* Nicholas II (Russia: 1894-1917)
* Pol Pot (Cambodia: 1975-79)
* Saddam Hussein (Iraq: 1969- )
* Tojo Hideki (Japan: 1941-44)
* Wilhelm II (Germany: 1888-1918 )
* Yahya Khan (Pakistan: 1969-71)

Khomeini fatwa 'led to killing of 30,000 in Iran'
By Christina Lamb, Diplomatic Correspondent
Last Updated: 3:55pm BST 19/06/2001
CHILDREN as young as 13 were hanged from cranes, six at a time, in a barbaric two-month purge of Iran's prisons on the direct orders of Ayatollah Khomeini, according to a new book by his former deputy.
More than 30,000 political prisoners were executed in the 1988 massacre - a far larger number than previously suspected. Secret documents smuggled out of Iran reveal that, because of the large numbers of necks to be broken, prisoners were loaded onto forklift trucks in groups of six and hanged from cranes in half-hourly intervals.
Gruesome details are contained in the memoirs of Grand Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri, The Memoirs of Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, one of the founders of the Islamic regime. He was once considered Khomeini's anointed successor, but was deposed for his outspokenness, and is now under house arrest in the holy city of Qom.
Published privately last month after attempts by the regime to suppress it, the revelations have prompted demands from Iranian exiles for those involved to be tried for crimes against humanity. The most damning of the letters and documents published in the book is Khomeini's fatwa decree calling for all Mojahedin (as opponents of the Iranian regime are known) to be killed. |

So you're saying America went in to Iraq on humanitarian grounds? |

No but if Saddam wasn't so evil the US wouldn't have been so concerned about him becoming powerful.
At any rate the other poster claims he opposes the war on humanitarian grounds which makes his stupid or dishonest or both.
anyway fyi

| How strange - aren't you all supposed to tell Canadians to mind their own business when they post about American politics? Joo, why didn't you put jinju in his place by telling him his opinion doesn't count because he doesn't have a vote? |

Hint: Not everybody that reads a thread comes out with the same opinion.
So back to the question: Why do you mind when non-Americans give their opinion when it doesn't agree with yours but when they agree with you you're pleased as punch to have their opinion on the thread? |

Well then, I guess that clears it.
BTW, looks like Ron Paul's going to be on a debate on FOX News on the 21st. That's going to be interesting. That's what his site says, anyway. |

I am sure the dead in Iraq are saying how good it is to be free. Oh wait....
they are dead!
Bottom line, any war of aggression is wrong. I don't support wars by any nation attempting to impose imperialist policy, Russia and Chechnya for example, never supported it.
I also don't support regimes which are comprised of war profiteers. It is all very bad for the world in general and not very good for peace in general |
