Cost me a nice 3 mil for the wife, 2 kids (babies) and myself to fly back to Canada.

For all you n00bs here, get your tickets early. We had a semi-hard time finding a good, direct flight home.

Two and a half months in Canada with the family. I don't know if that's good or not. The only positive thing I can think of is boxing day(week) sales. My wife knows about them, but has never experienced them.

Make sure you request the bulhead and sky-cribs / baby baskets for the kids. The flight is too long to leave them in your lap.

They should also include a baby kit for each of them with diapers, butt cream, a toy or two and a couple jars of baby food each.

If they are not available don't forget the overhead lockers can also be used for infant storage.

How early is early? I have to go back to Canada in May for my sister's wedding and I'd like to get the best price I can. I never cared about the prices before because my school always paid. Laughing

I would kill for that price! I went to Toronto with the wife and 3 month old in August... cost us 3.9 million. And, we booked about 5 months ahead of time.

As for the flight... 13 hours and little Newbie slept for 12.5

It appears that if you buy several months ahead of time, you are getting charged the full retail price instead of market price. If you buy directly from airlines, you are being charged full retail price. Also travel agents can produce better deals than airlines since they often buy in bulk. Often, if it's like say, 2 weeks before a scheduled flight, you can bet those tickets still available are not being offered at full retail price.

RT to the states now is only $1000 US on Northwest airlines due to a special they are running.

Last month, I paid $1500 for a last minute RT flight on Northwest. I bought the ticket like 15 hours before the flight. Don't ask me how I did it, because a Korean helped me and I paid him for it. Normally, this flight would be priced at clearly double that. I still got my miles added to my frequent flyer miles account despite not booking with the airline itself.

Ottawa, which makes it awesome. We went back about 2 years ago and it cost us about 3.5. I don't know why this one is such a good deal...I just made the wife pull out the plastic and pay right there and then.

Tom..we already reserved the baby thing. We are allowed to carry an extra 45 kilos of baggage per kid. I think we'll abuse that on the way back.
Customs states "1 litre of alcohol per person" Are my 2 month old kids persons yet? If not I'll have to fill the baby bags with coffee and snacks.

My daughter flew round trip JFK to Incheon for Chuseok, arriving on 9-21. She didn't buy her ticket until about 10 days before (I was going crazy, and thought SHE was crazy to wait!) She ended up paying $792 round trip on United, one 2 hour stop in SFO.
She set up a whole lot of "fair watch" things with various ticket suppliers and airlines, and pounced on this fare when it popped into her email.
