I'm going to have to work one of those 10-7 type jobs, aren't I? I know there are those rare 1-5 jobs where you get paid 2.6, but those are pretty hard to come by.
I've got an impressive enough resume (for Korea): 3 years of experience (in three different countries, with kids, uni students and adults), a BA in English Lit and a TEFL. But it still seems like, if I want a high-paying job, I'm going to have work a lot of hours. |

No, just be patient, and negotiate the salary. I'm working 4-10, and on 2.3. Working 4-10 isn't too bad, as things start and finish later here. For example, it hardly ruins your Friday nights.
Oh, and I only had one year experience, with no TEFL. So, just keep hunting. Good luck with it. |

~30hr/wk for 2.5. Another friend, slightly more, also for 2.5. They're all around. Just be patient and research yourself, don't let a recruiter hand you jobs. Camp the job posting sites and be contacting any lucrative job offers immediately.
Oh, and I have no qualifications, unless you count CDI certification, and only had half a year's experience under my belt. My friend has an English BA and a year's experience. |

I'll be at 2.5 next year if I stick around the public schools. I'm in one of the provinces but love the working environment. Two years experience and a CELTA. |

Thanks for the input. This should be in the Job Forum, shouldn't it? How can I move it there? |

Are you guys reading the OP? He doesn't want to work those hours. Anybody can make that much working those hours. 30 hours a week? Actually teaching? That's a lot.
I had a friend doing a 1-5 job making 2.8million but he didn't get a housing allowance. |

He actually was talking about a 10-7 gig which would be 45hr/wk. I might have to be here 30 hours but I have no idea how long I teach. It's whenever they come and tear me away from the computer. Like Fridays, I have to be here 2-7 but I only work maybe 3 of those hours. |

Okay, that's not bad then. Just seemed like you meant teaching 30 hours a week. |

This is always a three variable issue.
There is how much contact or teaching hours you have.
There is how much mandatory on-site time you have.
There is how much additional work that you can do at home if you want and don't have time to finish during mandatory on-site hours.
You need to look at all 3 when thinking about a job and deicde what is most important to you.
Some places have fairly low-teaching hours, but you have to be on-site for 40 hours a week every week etc...
To me, total hours a week you have to work, all-in, (all three variables added together) is most important. However, total teaching hours is also important for many in terms of burn-out. It also depends on the curriculum for how well one can stomach longer teaching hours. If you have a weak curriculum and are always having to invent new stuff on the fly, then long teaching hours can wear you down fast. |

My base for 15 hours is 2.5 now. Not bad for someone with just a BA. I do an extra 2 hours OT per week at OT pay plus evening bonus, which comes out to another 25,000 an hour. Then I have a "special evening non-credit class" which pays 30,000 per hour (only another 2 hours per week).
Working 19 hours total, and making just under 3 million -- all legal.
I just got a call from my uni boss, and two professors want me to teach them privately on-campus. We are negotiating, but they are willing to do 90,000 for two hours once per week.
That'll put me at what... 3.35 million for 21 hours (pre-tax)?
Uni life is getting better. Extra cash opportunities come and go in spurts, though.
I can legally have 9 students of outside privates with an F2, as I understand it. At 40,000 an hour, I'll let you do the math. I have to keep up with the wife, because she makes more money than I do.
We live in university housing, and are saving as much as possible to buy a big house in the USA some day. |

My current situation involved 30 hours of teaching. I do about 7 more hours a week of additional work - most of it paid. I get about 5 Million but with no severance, medical, housing, pension.
My total work hours, all-in, are pretty good IMO. But I don't have much downtime on-site. I'm pretty much working on something or teaching whenever I'm at work. |

Get married, register yourself as a tutor and do privates. Simple, eh? |

F-2-1 all problems solved. I'm at 5 million won just over 25 teaching hours. |
