This made me laugh more than it should have. I think because I knew it was coming. Can't believe it took until page 2.

Korean cinema can be really freaking good.

Two words: D-War

i know it was a Hollywood release, but it was written, directed, and produced by a Korean so it's Korean in my books.

And Hollywood still does produce some fantastic movies every year. Get off your hight horse mate.

Like what, Transformers? The new Die Hard?

The only good Hollywood movies are when they purchase the rights to an independent film/fund an independent film. Name three genuinely good Hollywood (not independent but strictly Hollywood) movies this year worth seeing (there better be no Spiderman, or Harry Potter on said list).

Does anyone have any recommendations? As much as like these movies, some of them make my stomach turn a bit. Maybe something less violent?

Also, how do you feel towards Korean cinema?

Kim Ki Duk and Im Kwon Taek make decent movies. Their subjects can be heavy.

I don't care much for Korean comedies.

There seem to be many dreamy love stories, and relationship dramas. I think Koreans like to imagine that they love while watching these movies, while in real life they run like scaredy cats, or laugh in condescension, when shown something direct and real in that department. But that's another subject.

BTW, gamut. Smile

Limiting it to one year makes it difficult as you are telling us about Korean movies that go as far back as 5 years, but off the top of my head I would say "Bourne Ultimatum" was better than any Korean flick I've ever seen.
I'd also put 300 up there. And of course, the "Oscar" worthy films should be coming out soon, shouldn't they? (not that being Oscar worthy is always what it's cracked up to be) The new Jodie Foster movie looks kinda interesting. I could also see the Jesse James flick working out well.

And if you're slightly immature as I am, Blades of Glory is definitely worth seeing.
