How did this start? Is it from a movie, a TV show, or what? It's been going on for a few years now and it's getting old. Anyone know how this started?

It's just a standard display of machismo that arises in any culture with an excess of testosterone.

It's similar to the manly butt-slap in football or the face buckaroo move found in wrestling and mma.

Very popular over the last couple of years. Is the recent surge a western thing or did it start over here?

I prefer the two handed gesture of making a circle with the index finger and thumb of one hand, then putting the index finger of the other hand through the circle. It's much sexier.

Some girl did this in a job interview at my company. I guess she thought my male Australian co-worker would find it cutesy.

If I tried that at home, I wonder what would happen....

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whose sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives.

In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs Campaign became phenomenal.

As this symbol of human hope spread across the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs Campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe inspiring.

In the Spirit of the Free Hugs Campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! After all, If you can reach just one person...

Young girls and guys do this at Insadong. Only a brief hug and a forced and awkward smile is allowed. God forbid if you tried a real friendly smile and an attempt at a conversation. Rabbit eyes or formal bowing, or both, will ensue. Oh well. At least they are trying to try...

And in Myeong-dong. Although the ones giving free hugs only to those who believe Dokdo is Korean made me sad.
