I am talking to those here with fake degrees and those that are here with no degrees! You are screwing stuff up for those of us that are here legitimately. Why is it that you can't just follow simple rules? Also, you are giving me a freaking headache. Get lost. Put in your time just like the rest of us with degrees/certifications. Sheesh! |

Haha. Good point. Haven't met many obvious fakers in awhile though. I think the migrate to warmer climes around this time. |

yea, and anyone who doesn't speak Korean is messing it up for you. And everyone who smells bad is messing it up for you. And everyone who screws their students, gets drunk and acts the fool, or ever (god forbid) takes a puff on Korean soil. Or my personal favorite 'the wangta foreigner' (gasp!) And on and on....
Are you really saying that if all of the above disappeared overnight, the Koreans would change their minds?
Sure, there's people with fake degrees. Sure, they shouldn't be here because we all know that one can only be a good teacher if one has a degree AND that Korean laws are so very very important. But I believe the feds were already asking for proof of degree a long time ago.
WHY did they start asking? Because they found some folks with fake degrees? OR could it be...they don't f'ing believe us. WHY? Cause we're foreigners, einstein. Ahh, yes, but YOU'RE are not like THOSE foreigners, right Cubanlord? No respect, eh Rodney?

Yes, that is right. I am not like those that have a fake degree or no degree at all. I do have a degree AND I am almost done with my advanced degree. I am glad that your 'advanced' way of thinking was capable of figuring that out all by yourself. You deserve a cookie.
I'm surprised you went ahead and made an assumption without even asking why I would post something that came out of left field. You have no idea what I meant by the post or what drove me to write that post did you? Troll! |

lol. That isn't the point I am making and yet people keep on assuming it is.
This is the reason why I made the comment I did (earlier):
It turns out that the Ministry of Ed. is telling the schools to ask their teacher/s for verification so that they can compare the information given to what immigration has on record. I was ticked, earlier, because this is the third time my wife and I have had to answer questions regarding the validity of our education (avg. once a year now).
I couldn't help to think that if people didn't come to Korea with fake degrees or with NO degrees at all, that the Korean government wouldn't both those that are here legitmately. That is why I wrote what I wrote. I never said those without a degree are not good teachers. I said they are making it difficult for people like me because people like me (i.e. those with degrees) have to constantly be subjected to these verifications and inconvienced over and over and over again. Sure, it's only a few seconds out of my day. However, I don't like it and am tired of it. Again, they wouldn't do it if everyone here was legitimate.
THAT, ladies and gentlemen, was my point, not what you were 'assuming'.

Oh ....if you have a TESOL Degree...
You learn teaching methodologies and curriculum design.
You could have to plan out a series of lesson plans based upon an actually textbook with a specific learner level in mind. You would have to teach those lesson plans and give a critique of your performance. You have an advisor who does the same.
You study the formation of language and development of grammar. You learn the basics of linguistics. Which includes how and where certain sounds are made in the mouth / throat.
For example, how many of you know the difference between where a Korean R / L is made and a North American R/L in the mouth.
You might learn about international teaching styles, management techiques of foriegn companies...
etc.....etc.....etc.... |

On a microlevel, fake degreelosers don't bother me-I'ma certified teacher, easy to verify, and because of that, I get paid more. Sure, there is noise in the press, but as pointed out to the tard from Texas thread-the Korean detractors would whine about anything and everything else. |

yes, but seriously though, don't you guys get tired of having to re-verify yourselves to the government? I do. Yes, it's easy to do and takes but a few seconds, but man....this is one thing I hate here. I mean really, you verified me once, you verified me twice, you verified me... |

How do the government verify your degree?
Each time I've gone to Korea I've posted my degree to my boss and that's all I have to think about the verification process. It's no hassle and if you're worried about the mailpeople losing your degree you can get a notified copy. I don't see what the hassle is (if the verification process is the same as mine for all teachers). |

Hi T,
sure, that is how you verify it the FIRST time. The second time, we had to actually go to the immigration office with our actual degrees because of some 'foreign teacher fake degree scandal'. The third time, they checked to see if what we said matches with what is in our records.
The hassle lies in the fact that they check it so many times over and over again as if my answers will change. They won't change. Well....actually they will in a few months when I complete my Master's program. However, that is a different change. All of the other CRAP they have had me verify is the same, has been and always will be.
Anyways, I'm over it (just had to rant). I've been told this is a nice place to do it. |

Kyongi Do Immi's having a small clampdown from today or yesterday, but it involves just sending letters to the director.
I can imagine an honesty box system with 'Excuse me, but are your foreigners legitimate?' |
