|
|
Hello,
This is a pretty personal topic, so I'd appreciate your sensitivity. I just don't know where to find out this information other than on Dave's...
I found out recently from my doctor in the US that I need to have a LEEP procedure done. It's not cancer, but is something fairly serious that needs to be taken care of..
Basically I wanted to see if anyone had had this procedure done in Korea, and could recommend a place? Right now I'm thinking about Dr. Sung, but I have heard a few negatives about her on this board too. Has anyone been treated for something similar either with her or at the Samsung hospital? I live about 4 hours from Seoul, but it seems that the best doctors are there.
I just don't want to take any chances, and going back to the US to get this taken care of isn't an option. Thanks for your help! |

I've had the proceedure done at Samsung hospital by a doctor who is no longer there. I've also had cryo years ago in the states. Neither are pleasant but you should ask for anesthetic and some pain medication for the next few days. I think I went to Tony Roma's afterwards and had a Long Island Iced Tea.
Sorry I have no experience with Dr. Jung though |

We used Dr. Sung for our pre-term labour. She guided us through 7 months of pregnancy. She was the best Doctor we had seen, Some of the perks that we enjoyed was her excellent English ability, her frankness with issues, and the quickness in which she dealt with us.
If we decide to have another baby, we are considering doing the first 5 months of it here in Korea, only because of Dr. Sung, Then we would return to Canada.
I know it is not the same issue you were discussing, but I figured what I had to say goes along with her character. I hope this helps. |

i like dr. sung. she's been great. i've been seeing her every few months for the past year and wouldn't go to another doctor. her english is fantastic, she is open to answering questions (difficult to find in a doctor here), and is very knowledgeable.
the only thing i don't like is that she is a bit of a salesperson. she always tries to sell me procedures i don't need, mammgrams, bone density testing, whatever. but she doesn't push it when i say no.
i highly recommend her.

Where is this woman? Now that Yasmin is legal in Korea, I need to get a prescrip. Too difficult and expensive to keep getting it shipping from Canada via the States... |

Thanks for your help! I've made an appointment with Dr. Sung, it sounds like she's reputable and also she's the only place I've seen open on Saturdays...
If I'm coming from out of town what's the easiest way to find her clinic? I think I'll be arriving at the express bus terminal. |

the closest subway stop is hangangjin on line 7 (3 stops away from itaewon). go out exit 3 (i'm really sure it's 3, but i could be wrong), and walk straight. you should see a harley-davidson dealership in front of you pretty soon. the road curves to the right a bit, go with it. you'll see a pedestrian overpass on your left to cross the street, go over and continue in the same direction you were going (away from the harley shop). you'll pass the hannam supermarket (big bowling pin out front). keep walking, maybe a 10 minute walk. you'll come to a major intersection that has a raised highway over it. cross the street, continuing in the direction you were already going (the raised highway should be parallel to you, on your right) , and turn left. on the corner is a cafe/italian restaurant with a patio, the next building has a revolving door. that's the place. she's on the 3rd floor. if you pass paris croissant, you've gone too far.
hope that makes sense. you can also call her office and they'll give you directions.

Is that just a Yasmin thing? you don't normally need a scrip for the pill in Korea |

Yep. My boyfriend called the drug company here in Korea and apparently freaked the woman out by a) being a man calling and asking about the pill and b) knowing it was going to be approved when the information had only been released in English and not Korean. They said, for whatever reason, this is only available by prescription. But it's only been available since October 1st, so I need to find someone who offers it.
And this is Korea, and we all know the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing, so I hope that when I try to get it the info matches what he told me... |

I actually had that procedure done by Dr Sung and would recommend her.
I also suggest that the best way to get there is to get a taxi from Itaewon and get them to take you to Hanam-Oh-go-ri. There acouple of floors up in a building with a bank and a coffee shop (though it's been a while since I've been there)
Just make sure you take the number of the clinic as well! |

Just wanted to report for anyone who might be thinking of going there. I went on Saturday and I was extremely impressed. She was really nice, invited my boyfriend in to talk with him too, and gave me tons of literature to read as well. The equipment there was more advanced than what I've seen at my doctor's in the US. Probably the best experience I've ever had with a gynecologist. The only negative was the price- 120,000 won because of the specialized tests that she ran. And the actual surgery is going to cost about 400,000 won (even with health insurance). But personally, I'd rather have an excellent doctor and pay a bucket load if it'll prevent me from getting cancer. I don't think it costs nearly as much to get routine pap smears etc. done. Thanks for the advice ladies! |

I also had it done, but when I took my medical files to my current OBGYN, she was surprised that I had the procedure. She said she would not have recommended it for me, it was unnecessary. Now being pregnant, I do have to worry about incompetent cervix in the 2nd trimester as a result. My OBGYN assured me I would be fine, but in talking with other women online and those I have recommended, Dr. Sung has pushed the LEEP procedure on EVERYONE I know. Ok, the odds of us ALL needing the procedure are pretty low, yet we ALL had it done, except for the few who DID get a second opinion.
That being said, they were professional and caring, I paid extra to be put under, had a private care room and she phoned me personally to check up on me. Follow up visits were all free and the care was excellent.
So since you know you need it, then Dr. Sung is the best choice.
For ladies who are told they need it by Dr. Sung, get a 2nd opinion if you can. There can be issues with getting pregnant and carrying to full-term after having the LEEP, so just be doubly certain you need it before you do! |
